New Delhi October 29 - The much talked about eighth round of talks between the envoys of His Holiness and Chinese government will take place soon, according to Xinhua, China’s official mouthpiece.
However, the report clearly attempts to show that the initiative for dialogue has been from Chinese side more than the Tibetan side. “China's central government is to arrange another round of talks with the private representatives of the Dalai Lama "in the near future" at the request of the Dalai Lama side,” it said.

The report also projected China as a benevolent partner agreeing to continue talks despite its dissatisfaction over Tibetans’ actions. Quoting an unnamed official, the report indicated that China is meeting with His Holiness’ envoys “despite the Lhasa riot in March and serious disruptions and sabotage to the Beijing Olympic Games by a handful of "Tibet independence" secessionists.”

The official also said, “The government hoped the Dalai Lama's delegation would treasure this opportunity and make a positive response to the requirements set forth by the central authorities”.

The envoys of the His Holiness the Dalai Lama met with officials from China’s United Work Front Department previously in May and July this year.

It is for the first time that China has publicly acknowledged any meeting with the envoys of the Dalai Lama before issuance of any statement from Dharamshala.

The dates for the talks have not been finalized yet. However, sources told Phayul that the envoys will leave for China within a week.
