Tibet : Unknown protesters post “Independence of Tibet” messages
Scores of leaflets bearing ‘Free Tibet’ messages are allegedly found in Dzogchen Township in Dege County, Kardze Prefecture in Sichuan Province on Tuesday, according to a source here with contact in the region. The source, whose name is withheld for security reasons, said the leaflets were found on the walls of many houses belonging to Tibetans in the town.“On the night of December 20, many Free Tibet leaflets were pasted on the walls and authorities and residents came to know of the protest posters only the next day and were all taken off by Chinese authorities,” the unnamed source told Tibet Express.
The leaflets allegedly bore messages calling for “Independence of Tibet,” “return of Dalai Lama to Tibet,” and “lack of freedom” in Tibet, according to the source.
It is not immediately known who could be behind the act nor had any arrest been made in connection with the protest yet. Authorities have however issued warnings of arrest.
“Many Chinese officials arrived at the town the next day and issued warnings of severe consequences if any breakthrough leading to arrest of people behind the act surfaces,” the source said.
The symbolic form of anti-China’s rule protest this time follows similar protest last week at a monastery called Sog Tsenden Monastery in Sog County in Tibet Autonomous Region.
