Tibet : Two beaten and several Tibetans sentenced to jail terms in Golog
A Tibetan father-son duo were recently arrested and beaten in police custody in Pema County in Golog region of Tibet.The duo was allegedly arrested on Sunday and it is not known on what accusations the police arrested them.While, Anak Dorgyam, the father, was released two days later, the son is currently being held.The duo reportedly suffered severe torture and beatings in the police custody.At the time of his release, Anak Dorgyam couldn’t even speak and it is hard to tell if he will survive or not.Dorgyam’s son, a monk, also reportedly suffered severe beatings and his condition is feared to be equally critical.
Meanwhile, one of the six Tibetans earlier arrested in January from the same county on charges of anti-China activities was released while the remaining five had been sentenced to varying prison terms.
28 year old Tsetan was sentenced to three years, 20 year old Wangdar was sentenced to two years, 17 year old Lui was sentenced to one year, 20 year old Palgyal was sentenced to one and a half year and 20 year old Damtsik was sentenced to 2 years.
The sentence was allegedly announced by a court in Golog on March 13.
On January 24, the six Tibetans staged an anti-China protest in Golog carrying a banned picture of their spiritual leader Dalai Lama and were later arrested. Other Tibetans who witnessed the incident reportedly interrupted the security officials who opened fires leaving many of them injured.
