Tibet : Message calling for Tibet’s independence emerges at monastery

A message calling for Tibet’s independence from China’s rule emerged at a monastery in Sog County in Tibet’s Autonomous Region area on Friday leading to virtual lockdown of monastery.The entire place of Sog Tsendhen Monastery is currently locked down by Chinese authorities following the incident of Free Tibet message protest.The incident allegedly took place following patriotic re-education campaign – a practice that demands strict allegiance to the Beijing’s rule over Tibet - initiated by Chinese authorities to the monks at the monastery on December 16.Officials from the Chinese propaganda machinery distributed scores of literature urging loyalty to the communist regime to the monks on Friday. One the back of one of those literatures, a message bearing Tibet’s independence was found later that very day.

The finding has allegedly created tension in the monastery which was immediately sealed off and a large number of Chinese officials and polices are deployed to keep watch on the monks.

There was no arrest made so far in connection with the incident but the monastery continues to be under virtual lockdown.
