China has arrested three monks of Wara Monastery in Thangpu Township, Jomda County (Ch: Jiangda xian) in Chamdo Prefecture, “Tibet Autonomous Region” (‘TAR’) on June 7, 2010.The County Public Security Bureau, after review of cases of protests in 2008 and 2009, have summoned the monks to the County PSB headquarters for questioning. The monks, according to a source, were suspected of leading and instigating protests in Jomda County in 2008 and 2009. Kelsang Dhargayp; 32, Tashi lhundup; 22, and Tashi wangdue; 35 were arrested on June 7 after questioning them at the PSB headquarters.
Just last month, China arrested six other monks of the same monastery.
Thinley; 25, Nangsey; 27, Soegon and Kelsang Gyurmey were arrested on May 15 while Sonam Gonpo; 40, and Tagyal; 29 were arrested on May 16.
In March this year, the authorities in Jomda County have arrested 2 Tibetan monks who were accused of setting ablaze a government vehicle on the night of March 10, 2010, the 51st Tibetan national uprising day.
On 3 April 2008, monks of Wara Monastery in Jomda County confronted Chinese government’s “work team" and refused to comply with the 'patriotic education' campaign saying “even at the cost of our lives we will never denounce our leader, the Dalai Lama."
