Protest demonstration in New York
The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress in conjunction with SFT organized a protest demonstration in front of Chinese Mission on October 13 to strongly condemn the recent opening of fire at defenseless Tibetan refugees by the Chinese border patrols at Nangpala (Tibet-Nepal border). This incident took place on September 30th leading to atleast two deaths and detention of about 30 Tibetan escapees including 10 children whose fates are still unknown. This incident has become a proof to the outside world of the ongoing brutality of this Chinese regime and the high vulnerability of Tibetans crossing the border every year.In this light, the protestors of about 300 in number gathered in front of Chinese Mission at about 4.30 pm and started shouting slogans against this brutal act by the Chinese authorities. The slogans included ‘stop the killings of refugees’, ‘no freedom, no peace’, Nangpala a death trap, China lies, people die, shame on China, etc. Organizers from both RTYC and SFT condemned this act of atrocity by the Chinese border troops and called for immediate halt to this kind of inhumane treatment to Tibetan refugees crossing the border. They further unanimously expressed their determination to continue their protest until the justice is fully served. The demonstration was then followed by candle light vigil signaling the united call for justice to this unfortunate incident at Nangpala. The protest demonstration eventually concluded with prayers (Words of Truth) and national anthem.
