India : Exile Tibetans condemn Nyakchuka clampdown with protest

The Tibetan Youth Congress carried out a protest in the Indian capital to condemn the Chinese government's crackdown on Tibetan petitioners in Tibet's Nyakchuka County. The largest Tibetan NGO, which seeks complete independence for Tibet ,demanded unconditional release of Trulku Tenzin Delek, a widely respected Tibetan master currently in Chinese prison.
Tibetan monks, nuns and laypeople carried the Tibetan national flag, placards, and posters calling for an end to suppression of the Tibetan people in Tibet. The Tibetans walked to the UN Information Centre in New Delhi, and appealed the world body to follow up on the assurances given to the TYC by the UN Secretary General during a hunger strike in 2004 hunger in front of UN headquarter to seek Trulku's release.

A Memorandum was sent to the Indian Prime Minister, United Nations and Chinese president Hu Jintao.

The TYC said China China must allow free access for humanitarian organizations to provide emergency medical assistance for Tibetans injured in the clampdown.

The situation in Nyagchuka County is reportedly tense as the authorities deploy armed paramilitary forces and police.

The Tibetans in Nyakchuka County argue that Tenzin Delek Rinpoche had been jailed in a “fabricated” case and that there is no proof with the authorities against Rinpoche.

Trulku Tenzin Delek was hugely popular for his humanitarian works including setting up of schools, elderly people’s homes, working with local officials to protect forests and his efforts to preserve Tibetan culture.
