Federation For A Democratic China : press release
The Federation For A Democratic China (abbreviated to FDC) is a Chinese political organisation whose objective is to expedite the termination of the one party dictatorship of the CCP. FDC was inaugurated in September 1989, in Paris, France, in the wake of Tiananmen Massacre. The delegation of FDC to Dharamsala in India has set the following objectives: In opening, we wish to express our deepest respect for H.H. the Dalai Lama.Secondly, we wish to convey our sympathy and sadness for the Tibetan people. During this delegation, we wish to gain a deeper and more personal understanding of the suffering and grief of exiled Tibetans, and to listen to the voices and cries of those who are desperately continuing their fight for a free Tibet which will protect and nurture Tibetan culture and religion.Thirdly, we wish to communicate and exchange views with the Tibetan Government-in-exile, to explore the potential and viability of joining forces to expedite political change in China.Fourth, we believe that the natural spiritual leader for this democratic coalition, which would also represent all ethnic nationalities in China, is His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The world wide respect for the high standing and moral authority of H.H. the Dalai Lama will greatly enhance the international credibility of this movement, and will therefore increase the possibility of success in the foreseeable future.
China has two outstanding needs:
• political democracy
• a reinstatement of morality and faith.
Whilst in this pursuit of these needs, the people of all ethnicities within China should ensure that the promise of trust is re-introduced to the Chinese people, both in its authorities and in each other, and that an emphasis of love and caring for other human beings be made the foremost priority .
To achieve that, the FDC strongly believes that the wisdom and compassion of H.H. the Dalai Lama as a teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, are the key factors which are necessary to meet these needs in order to rebuild a strong and stable democratic China. These values are those closest to the traditional ancient Chinese values which have been eroded and distorted by this current regime. Wisdom and compassion will be the essential elements of building a new and free democratic China. A democratic political system and federalization of China are imperative in order to guarantee the equal and harmonious co-existence of different nationalities within one body politic.
The FDC opposes blind nationalism and Han chauvinism.
The FDC respects both authentic history its true facts, and would like to review and clarify the printed history of both Tibet and China, to avoid confusion in world opinion, and thus maintain an open attitude toward Han-Tibetan relations.
The FDC oppose any bullying of the weak by the powerful, especially with the fraudulent avuncular pretence of being a benefactor to minority nationalities. Transparency and accountability is required to verify which ethnic groups are the beneficiaries of "development" policies.
The FDC advocates the harmonious co-existence and co-prosperity of all different nationalities within China as an essential political goal. The realisation of democracy in China is the first major step of our political goal. Harmonious co-existence of different nationalities within one body politic, without the divisions resulting from a weak central political power, is the second step of our political goal. The dissolution of Soviet Union has always been an excuse for the CCP to scare Chinese people from striving for freedom and democracy. Seeing newly elected African-American Barack Obama to become the president of the US, has set a brilliant example for the Chinese people that it is feasible that a non-Han Chinese, elected as nominal head of state for democratized China, is the best option. The Tibet issue is a tough political problem. Seeking meaningful autonomy of Tibet under the current rule of CCP has seen no significant advancement. In view of the eight rounds of Tibetan –Han talks, even with the significant and major compromises accepted by H.H. the Dalai Lama for the sake of millions of Tibetans, there has been no positive response from the CCP. During the recently completed eighth round of talks, the CCP demonstrated an even harsher position and more stubborn line than ever before. H.H. the Dalai Lama has expressed his disappointment towards the Chinese government's lack of sincerity towards these dialogues on several occasions. A special meeting has been convened to review the Tibetan policy regarding continued talks with China. At this very moment, the FDC delegation’s visit to Dharamsala is without a doubt a witness to history in the making. FDC wish to pursue the proposal that H.H. the Dalai Lama become the spiritual leader for the grand coalition of the democratic movement, including all ethnic nationalities in China, including Uighers, Mongolians, Tibetan freedom movement and Chinese democratic movement. This regrouped coalition will become the major force in bringing democracy to China. Such a strong and credible coalition will demand attention in the world political arena and rekindle the light of hope for freedom and democracy for the oppressed people in China. China is facing various problems which cannot be addressed under the rule of CCP. The different political hopes and aspirations of the different ethnic nationalities will only be respected, consulted and heard when China is democracy. Democracy is the only viable solution for China.
