Dharamsala to mark Black Tibetan New year
Tibetan NGOs announces its decision not to celebrate the 2136 Earth-Ox year this coming February.
This decision was made with an intention to mourn the deaths of the hundreds of Tibetan who were killed by the Chinese military since March last year and to express our deepest solidarity with the thousands of Tibetans who continue to languish in the prisons in Tibet and to express empathy with Tibetans inside Tibet; affected by last year's brutal clampdown.
Tibetan NGOs will converge a mass public gathering in Dharamshala on the first day of Losar for an hour-long prayer meeting. We also urge the Tibetan community across the globe to observe similar prayer sessions. Together we stand in solidarity with our fellow Tibetans and pray for the peace, justice and freedom inside Tibet.
"As an exile Tibetan NGOs, we stand united in our unreserved condemnation of the Chinese continuing atrocities inside Tibet. We are gravely concerned about them," said Dr. B. Tsering. "When our brethrens in Tibet are subjugated to unimaginable sufferings on a daily basis, the least, we, in exile can do is to remember and honor the sacrifices of our heroes and pledge that their calls will not go unanswered."
Losar holds an auspicious aura and celebrated by Tibetans all over the world, for three days where all the family members gather to rejoice one another's company and to play, drink and make merry. Last year saw a historic uprising by the Tibetan people where hundreds died during the brutal clampdown by the Chinese military. As per the Tibetan tradition, the practice of year long mourning will be observed for the deceased.
"We will mark the beginning of this year's Losar with renewed energy to dedicate ourselves for the cause of Tibet and also to appeal for the Tibetans all over the world to contribute more time and resources for the cause of Tibetan freedom struggle," said Ven. Ngawang Woebar. Officially Losar is celebrated for three days and this year's Losar falls on the 25-27 February 2009.
