China arrested a Tibetan writer in Golok county, eastern Tibet

Chinese authorities arrested a Tibetan writer, Ven. Kunga Tseyang, from Golok county, eastern Tibet on 17 March. He was arrested at 12PM, 17 March 2009, the same time as The Ven. Jigmey Gyatso was arrested, Jigmey was the assistant for Mr. Dhondup Wangchen, who pruduced "Living Fear Behind" a Tibetan documentary film, a compilation of more then 100 interviews with Tibetan women, monks, and elderly Tibetans.Ven. Gang-Nyi or Kunga Tseyang, age 20, is a Tibetan writer from Lungkar Monastery, Golok county, eastern Tibet. He was studying in Labdrang Tashi Kyil Monastery, also at a Buddhis Institute for Higher Tibetan studies in same county, when he wrote several articles about Buddhism, and Tibetan culture and arts, his popular articles include; "Who Really Awakens of Stability," Who is the Real Separatist," "Who Stand Up Us," "The Responsibilities of Tibetan Reincarnations," "Lhasa is Not as It was," "China must apologize His Holiness the Dalai Lama," "Tibetans, We must be aware of AIDS," and "We, Tibetans, are unattested for the Truth"Ven. Kunga is not only a Tibetan writer, he is also environment activist from 'Yutse Environment Department', where he used to work. As he was a photographer, his photographs depict the various aspects of his work, including environmental photos well known and respected in all parts of Tibet.After his arrest, Chinese authorities still do not provide information about where he has been detained and why he has been arrested. Chinese authorities detained nearly 100 Tibetan Buddhist monks after 4000 Tibetans protested in Tso-ngon county in eastern Tibet. The mass protests resulted from the death of a Tibetan monk from Ragya monastery, Gyulgho township Machu county, (CHI: Qinghai), who committed suicide by jumping into the yellow river on 21 March. The Chinese police beating and torture of Tibetans after large scale protests in all parts of Tibet since March last year left 220 Tibetans dead, more than 1,294 seriously injured and over 1,000 still missing.
