Blind Chinese Activist's Wife Under House Arrest For Over Three Years
Ms. Yuan Weijing, the wife of blind Chinese rights activist Chen Guangchen, has been put under house arrest by the Chinese communist regime for the past three year and seven months. On April 19, she was beaten again by thugs hired by the local regime for going out to pick up her kids from her mother's home.
Chen, as a blind, taught himself law so that he could help others to protect their human rights. After Chen accepted a Times magazine interview about forced abortion cases he investigated, he was put under house arrest and has remained there since September 2005. The regime formally arrested him in June 2006 for destruction of property and assembling a crowd to disrupt traffic and sentenced him to a four-year-three-months prison term.
Yuan said another reason that she visited her mother was because her brother-in-law just passed away in a car accident. Currently, her mother is the only one left at home since the other family members all went out of town to handle her brother-in-law’s death. Since her mother had stroke before, Yuan was very worried about her condition and wanted to give her some comfort. She also thought her mother may not be able to cope with taking care of her kids under the current circumstances.
But Yuan was stopped and beaten by nine thugs, who routinely guard her home, when she went to take a bus to her mother’s place.
Yuan told The Epoch Times, “They blocked me, beat me and tore apart a clothing bag I was carrying with me.”
According to Yuan, during the past three years and seven months, the local regime hired nearly over 30 people to guard her around the clock, even when she went to do farming work in the field.
Yuan said, since Chen’s imprisonment, she was only able to visit him one time on December 31, 2008. Chen has had diarrhea since July 2008 but still has not gotten any treatment.
