Asia Democracy Alliance Holds its 2nd Conference in the U.S. Capitol
On June 26, 2008 with help from Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House, the Asia Democracy Alliance held its 2nd high-level conference in the U.S. Capitol main building conference .
Leaders of various organizations and groups of the alliance who attended the conference included :
WEI Jingsheng, chair of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition
HUANG Ciping, secretary-general of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition,
Shibtsood Temtselt, chair of the Mongolian People's Party
Iris HO, Formosa Association for Public Affairs ,
Karma Zurkhang, President, Tibetan Association of North America.
Doma Norbu, President, US Dokham Chushi Gangdruk,
Karma Namgyal, Secretary-General, US Dokham Chushi Gangdruk
Tsering Palden, President, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress
The attendees also include:
Sidhagirougi and Mustafa (Rabiya Kadeer's husband and son), the International Uyghur Human Rights and Democracy Foundation;
Jamyang Norbu, Founder, Rangzen Alliance;
Sonam Wangdu, US Tibet Committee;
professor Sen Nieh, Washington Forum;
Dr. Charles Lee, FaLun Gong practitioner; and special guests:
Thubten Namgyal Juchon, former Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in Exile and Pema Chhinjor, former Cabinet Minister of the Tibetan Government in Exile.
The conference enthusiastically discussed the current situation and developments in Asia, as well as set up rules of cooperation between each other for a closer and more effective alliance. The conference also reached common agreement in general that only after the abolition of one-party dictatorships and the building of democratic systems, shall each individual organization be able to realize their individual goals. The leaders of each organization also expressed their will to coordinate with each other, to help each other, and to push for freedom, human rights and democracy in Asia.
The leaders of Vietnamese human rights organizations were not able to attend, but they sent their messages through a representative. The Burmese opposition leaders missed the conference due to communication
errors, but also forwarded their messages to wish the conference a success.
