Annual Report by the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders

In June 2008, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders published its 2007 annual report. The observatory is a joint project by the Geneva-based World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) and the Paris-based International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH). This annual report is one of most respected reviews of human rights condition worldwide. In this latest report, it detailed the fact that the Chinese authorities have stepped up efforts to censor dissenting voices in the run-up to the Olympic Games, including arresting people who were making protests in relation to the Olympic Games.
