Tibet : Lone youth held a public protest

Tsering Dhondrup, 23, held a public protest in Hongyuan County between June 11th -13th.Dhondrup raised slogans for the release of political prisoners and against the Chinese autocracy in Tibet referring to human rights violations, freedom for Tibet and freedom of movement, as well as the release of Tibetans from the Ngaba region who were arrested in Lhasa following an increased crackdown in Tibet's capital.Dhondrup carried a banner with pictures of Tibetans who had self-immolated in Tibet. The protest lasted for nearly 25 minutes until Dhondrup was arrested by the Chinese police in Hongyuan.

Tibet : Teen girl severely beaten ,arrested after a protest

A teenaged Tibetan girl was severely beaten and later arrested after a protest denouncing China’s rule in Kardze County in eastern Tibet.17 year old Gyurme Dolma, whose family depends on a livelihood of farming work, allegedly shouted pro-Tibet slogans calling for freedom and return of Dalai Lama while staging the lone protest on June 24 in her native place.Chinese security officials immediately arrested and severely beat her up before being taken away.Dolma was later found in a local government hospital where her relatives met and described her condition as “critical.”

Chinese authorities on Friday blocked funeral plans for a Tibetan protester set for the next day.Tenzin Khedup, 24, was one of two young Tibetans who self-immolated on June 20 in Dzatoe township in a protest against Chinese rule in Tibetan areas.His companion, Ngawang Norphel, 22, survived the fiery protest with severe burns and was taken to hospital for treatment.The monks of Zikar monastery and local Tibetans had planned a large funeral for Tenzin Khedup on June 23, but the Chinese authorities intervened at around 11:00 p.m.

Tibet : Kirti monk heavily sentenced

Losang Phuntsok, 29, a monk at the besieged Kirti Monastery in Ngaba has been sentenced to eight years in prison on unknown charges by the Ngaba prefecture court in Barkham.He has also been deprived of his “political rights” for four years.Soon after his sentencing, he was taken to another place to serve his sentence.
Losang Phutsok’s whereabouts had remained unknown since his arrest on October 17, 2011.The Ngaba region remains the nerve centre of the ongoing wave of self-immolations inside Tibet. 39 Tibetans have set their bodies on fire since 2009 demanding freedom in Tibet.

Several Tibetans hailing from Ngaba region, the epicenter of Tibet’s self-immolation protest, have been recently sentenced to various prison terms.Pulten, 40, a native of Gyalde village in Ngaba was sentenced to 3 years by Ngaba County People’s Court on June 2 and had been taken to an unknown place to serve the sentence. Pulten has a wife and 4 children.Gyurko, 30, also a native of Gyalde village, was sentenced to 2 years on the same day.

Tibet : Monk detained after protest in front of government offices

Chinese police have detained a Tibetan monk and tightened surveillance of his monastery after he staged a solitary protest in front of government offices in Tibet’s Chamdo county.Karma Rabten, a monk from Chamdo Rata monastery, protested in front of the Chamdo government offices and walked to a nearby square, shouting pro-Tibet slogans, on June 5.He was immediately detained and taken away by police.No one knows where he is now.The monastery and its surrounding area are now under strict surveillance.Chamdo county has been under tight security controls since the bombing of a government building

Tibet : Tibetan Nomad self-immolated today

A Tibetan nomad has died after setting himself afire this morning in Chentsa County, Malho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture .According to our sources, Tamding Thar, a Tibetan in his 50's, self-immolated today at around 6:30 am (Tibet Time) in front of the county's People's Armed Police camp.A large number of security officers appeared at the spot within few minutes, sources said.The officers extinguished the flames and took Tamding Thar, who was severely burnt.After the immolation protest, hundreds of local Tibetans gathered in front of the army camp demanding to hand-over Tamding Thar to them.

Tibet : Residents of Lhasa detained and sent back to native villages

Many Tibetans from Kham and Amdo who were living in Lhasa are reportedly being sent back to their native regions by the Chinese Government even though they were residents.The Chinese Police reportedly went around towns, questioned any young Tibetans and have even arrested them and sent many homeless people to the detention centre, Tsel Gungthang.The Tibetans were detained there and were repeatedly questioned. People from the same provinces were then grouped together and sent them back to their native towns and villages through railways or buses.

Tibet : China Arrests Nine Monks In Bongthak Monastery

Nine Tibetan monks from Bongthak monastery; Damchoe Tsultrim Khedup Gyatso, Sangay Gyatso, Konchok Gyatso, Kalsang Shangsem, Kalsang Dakpa and Konchok Dhargye have been arrested by the Chinese Police.
A monk has been sentenced to one year in prison and another has been served a sentence that could last between two months and six months. A third monk is currently at prison in Nagormo while the whereabouts of one monk are unknown.The Chinese Government had arrested the monks on charges of having "contacts" outside Tibet as all of them had studied at Lhasa and had exposure.

A Tibetan monk has died after being tortured in police custody amid accusations he put up pro-independence posters.The posters were put up after a series of mass public protests in January and February challenging Chinese rule in Nyagrong.In May, posters calling for Tibetan independence appeared on the walls of a Chinese government building in Nyagrong.Consequently, on May 25, Chinese security forces detained a 32-year-old monk named Khawang, who came originally from the Tapewa nomad group in Kardze.He was severely tortured and beaten.A few days later, on or around May 28, he died in detention

Tibet : Chinese police search for a popular singer

Authorities have ordered the detention of a handicapped Tibetan singer accused of recording songs highlighting the hardships of life under Beijing’s rule.The date of the detention order on singer Phulchung is not known.It was the fourth in a string of cases involving the detention by Chinese authorities of Tibetan performers, writers, or educators reported during the last two months.Phulchung, who comes from Anchok township , has now gone into hiding to avoid capture, said India-based friend Jamyang, a native of the same town.

Tibet : Tibetan Monk defies chinese court

The monk, Bongtak Khedrub Gyatso, and five other Tibetans connected to the Bongtak monastery in Themchen county of the Tsonub prefecture had been called to trial on May 29.The Chinese authorities were just about to announce a sentence when Bontak Khedrub declared he was not guilty of any crime and complained of having been unjustly detained for over 100 days.He also said that he would not accept even one more day in jail.Chinese security forces had detained Gyatso and other monks following the February 17 self-immolation death of Damchoe Sangpo, a Bongtak monk.

Chinese border police detain pilgrims and refuse them entry into Tibet

Chinese border police have forcibly sent back a group of Tibetan pilgrims seeking to re-enter Tibet from Nepal after confiscating their residency permits and detaining them for a week.There are about 20,000 Tibetan refugees in Nepal, and Beijing is becoming more aggressive in urging Kathmandu to restrict their activities and to take action against other refugees fleeing alleged rights abuses and other actions by the Chinese authorities.The group of pilgrims which was sent back to Nepal came originally from Tibet’s Nagchu prefecture and comprised five men and four women in their 20s and 40s.

Two educators and a school official have been removed from their posts following widespread language-rights protests earlier this year by Tibetan students in northwestern China, as Chinese authorities continue to clamp down on assertions of Tibetan cultural and national identity.A Tibetan resident of the area identified the school official as Tsenden Gyal, 48, of the Tsekhog county education department in Malho.The teachers were identified as Pado, 42, head of the county’s Middle School No. 1;and Jigdo, 44, head of the county’s Middle School No. 2.

Tibet : Monk succumbs to injuries

Tsering Gyaltsen, a 40 year old monk, from Kham Drakgo monastery is reported to have succumbed to injuries inflicted upon him, due to severe beatings by the Chinese police.Tsering Gyaltsen was arrested on 9 February 2012 for participating in a protest against the policies of the Chinese government in Kham Drakgo, eastern Tibet.It was reported at that time, that his back was broken due to beatings by the Chinese police.Other than that, his condition and whereabouts were virtually unknown.Now it is reported that he died on the same day he got arrested in a nearby hospital due to severe injuries.
