Tibet : Four Tibetan Environmental Activists Arrested in Tawu

Four Tibetan environmental activists, all members of the locally-founded Tawu Environmental Protection Association, were arrested in mid-February 2012 by the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) officers at Tawu County in Kandze Autonomous Prefecture.Lumbu from Chagya village, Dakpa from Khucha village, Dawa from Yulo village, and an unidentified Tibetan man from Loru village were arrested and questioned by PSB officials.The Tawu Environmental Protection Association was founded informally in 2011 by local Tibetans hailing from various villages in Tawu County.

Tibet : Students demonstrations in Rebkong,Tsekhog and Gangcha

Tibetans have reignited a campaign to highlight language rights in Tibetan-populated areas, with about 4,000 students taking to the streets in three counties on Wednesday to protest any change in the medium of instruction in schools.The protests against a proposed change from Tibetan to Chinese language occurred in schools in Rebkong , Tsekhog and Gangcha counties.It was the biggest protest since October 2010 when thousands of Tibetan middle and primary school pupils from four different autonomous Tibetan prefectures demonstrated for days against a possible language change policy.

Tibet : Monks Detained in Kardze and Nagchu

Chinese police have detained six Tibetan monks for protesting against Chinese rule, distributing leaflets calling for independence, and viewing Tibetan self-immolations online.Monk Khedrub Dorje, 38, was severely beaten and detained last week for staging a protest in Kardze county. Khedrub, from Dza Samdrub monastery, had protested in front of a restaurant before a large crowd on March 7.His whereabouts and current condition remain unknown.

A young Tibetan monk burned himself to death in protest at Chinese rule as Tibetans marked “Uprising Day” at the weekend.The 18-year-old monk, identified as Gepe, staged the self-immolation behind a Chinese military office in the Ngaba prefecture.Gepe was from Ngaba's restive Kirti monastery, from which hundreds of monks have been taken away by Chinese security forces and which has faced a clampdown since early last year.He died on the spot, and Chinese military personnel immediately took his body inside the building.

East Turkestan : Uyghurs 'Prepared To Fight And Die'

Tibet : Monks Arrested at Sok Tsenden Monastery

Today, flyers were distributed for a third time near the Sok Tsenden Monastery calling for the return of the Dalai Lama and for the freedom of Tibet.This is not the first time flyers have been dispersed here.On the 16th of December, 2011 police entered the monastery to investigate a similar incident.A monk, Kelsang Tsultrim age 19, disappeared one month later, on the 15th of January 2012.Inititally, Kelsang's father, Ang Juk, friends, and family suspected that he had escaped. However, they have not heard from him since then and now believe he had been arrested by Chinese authorities.

Tibet : Tibetan students protest in Rebkong

Around 700 students of the Rebkong County National Middle School, Rongwo Town, took part in the protest Sunday, March 4.The students from grade 1 and 2 (about ten classes) of the senior section were enraged to discover that their new textbooks, which were previously in Tibetan, were now in Chinese.They started ripping the books up and tried to march into the town.However, the students were stopped by their teachers and headmaster from proceeding any further.

A Tibetan has been shot dead and two others have suffered bullet injuries in yet another case of police firing on unarmed Tibetans.The shootings occurred on Tuesday in Pema region of Golok when Chinese security personnel arrested a Tibetan named Tobwang for his alleged involvement in anti-China protests in the region.Chinese security personnel opened indiscriminate fire when the gathered Tibetans tried to intervene.Choeri, 28, was shot in the face and died immediately.Two brothers, Jamphel Lodoe and Karkho, suffered serious bullet injuries and are currently in a hospital.Choeri is survived by

A Chinese court has recently sentenced to imprisonment a group of monks including an abbot of a Tibetan monastery for protesting against a Chinese mining company’s rampant mining at Tamo town located in Copper rich Shethongmon district in Shigatse.Prison terms of 4 – 5 years were given to 49-year-old Sangpo, who is the abbot of Lingka monastery, along with five other monks including Jamyang Tsering, aged 38.Moreover, the head of the village has been sentenced to 2 years in jail for dereliction of duty on the day of the protest.

Tibet : Another teenage self-immolates to protest against China

Around 6:30 pm Tibet time today, Dorjee, 18 year old son of Chacha set himself on fire to protest against the continuing occupation of Tibet and its policies by the Chinese government. He walked in flames near a bridge and headed towards a Chinese office and died at the scene.Dorjee later died at the scene of his protest.Cha Shang is located around 70 kms east to the main Ngaba town, the centre of the ongoing wave of self-immolations in Tibet.Local Tibetans tried to gain possession of Dorjee’s charred body but Chinese security personnel forcibly took it to Ngaba town.

Tibet : A middle school girl self-immolated in Machu

On Saturday, a girl from the Tibetan Middle school self-immolated at a vegetable market in Machu county, an exile source said, quoting local contacts.The Chinese vendors alerted the police who urged them to prevent her from leaving the market, the source said."The Chinese vendors at the Machu vegetable market threw stones at her burning body," the source said, adding that the girl died at the scene."The Tibetans present in the market were agitated and this almost resulted in a major clash between the Tibetans and Chinese," the source said.

Tibet : A Tibetan mother dies in self-immolation protest

Today a Tibetan mother of four passed away after setting her body on fire demanding the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and freedom in Tibet.The self-immolation occurred in Ngaba region at around 6.30 a.m..Rinchen, 33, torched her body in front of a special security office outside the main entrance of the besieged Kirti monastery, specifically set up by the local Chinese authorities following the spate of self-immolation and protests in the region.According to sources in exile, monks from the Kirti monastery were able to rescue Rinchen’s charred body and carried it inside the monastery.

Tibet : Mass arrests in Drango

400 Tibetans have been detained in connection with the January 23 mass protest in Drango which left at least five Tibetans dead and over 30 seriously injured in police firings.Hundreds of Tibetans had come out on the streets calling for Tibet’s freedom and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet.The protests flared after local Chinese Public Security Bureau officials began to arbitrarily arrest Tibetans on suspicion of their involvement in the appearance of leaflets and posters around the town following the wave of self-immolations in the region.
