Tibet : Twin Self-immolation in Barkham County

Two Tibetan monks have set themselves on fire today at around 12.30 pm (Tibet Time) at Barkham County, the capital of Ngaba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture .Tenpa Dhargyal and Chime Palden are monks at Gyalrong Tsodun Kirti Monastery in Barkham County, according to sources. The monks set themselves on fire while shouting slogans against the Chinese government.Sources also told TCHRD that the two were alive when they were taken to the hospital by the security officers. Some monks of Tsodun Kirti Monastery rushed to the scene of the self-immolation in three vehicles.

With great sadness the Tibetan Youth Congress announces the demise of Martyr Jamphel Yeshi who set his body on fire for the cause of Tibet on 26 March 2012 in New Delhi.Doctors announced Martyr Jamphel Yeshi, 27, clinically dead at 7:30 am today.He is survived by his mother and four siblings, all in Tibet.Martyr Jamphel Yeshi set himself on fire today at around 12:30 pm on March 26, in an apparent protest against the continued Chinese occupation of Tibet in front of hundreds of Tibetans who had converged from all over India at Jantar Mantar to protest Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit.

India : Tibetan self-immolates in New Delhi

A Tibetan youth set himself on fire at a mass protest rally organised by the Tibetan Youth Congress in New Delhi.The youth identified as Jampa Yeshi aged between 26 -29, a resident of New Delhi, set his body on fire at 12:25 pm Indian standard Time.He was rushed to a nearby hospital. The present condition of the youth is not immediately known.Tibetan activists from all over India are currently gathered in New Delhi to urge the international community to intervene in the ongoing critical situation in Tibet and also show Tibetan's protest against Hu Jintao's visit.

Tibet : Monastery raided

Two monks,identified as Tashi Woeser and Tashi Phuntsok,and two others were held after police raided the Worpu monastery as well as houses of monks and laypeople in Phetsa on Friday and Saturday nights.The two others were named as Soga and Guru Sangye.On March 23 night, Worpu monastery was under siege by Chinese police.The detentions came a week after seven Tibetan were sentenced to between eight and 12 years in jail for participating in January Nyagrong protests.The seven were paraded in the town to deter others from protesting against Chinese rule.

On Wednesday, a handicapped Tibetan, identified as Tsekhog of Luchu county, attempted to self-immolate by showering his body with kerosene and also drinking the fuel.Before he could light his body on fire, the security force arrived and took him away.Tibetans suspect that a local resident, in the hope of getting a reward, had alerted the police about Tsekhog's plan to self-immolate in front of the Ala township center.Local authorities had promised residents a reward of 5,000 yuan if they alert police and give "credible" information about potential self-immolations.

Forty Tibetan monks from Bora Monastery were arrested today by Chinese security officers after about 112 monks took out a protest march against the Chinese government on 19 March 2012, according to information received by TCHRD.The arrests occurred at around 2 am (Tibet Time) on 21 March 2012 when security officers from the local township office entered the monastery and arrested 40 monks.Hours later, news spread among other monks at the monastery about the night time arrests provoking a large gathering of monks who called for the immediate release of fellow monks.

A 20-yr-old Tibetan monk who self-immolated on 16 March 2012 died yesterday in Ngaba County, Ngaba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, sources told TCHRD.Lobsang Tsultrim, a monk at Kirti Monastery, set himself afire at around 5 pm (Tibet Time) on 16 March on the main road of Ngaba County market protesting against the Chinese government.On 19 March 2012, Lobsang succumbed to burn injuries at Barkham , capital of Ngaba Prefecture. In the evening of the same day, the authorities cremated Lobsang's body at a nearby cremation ground in Barkham.

Tibet : Chinese police raided a village in Dzatoe

On March 15 a hundred Chinese police and armed paramilitary police raided a village in Dzatoe township in Dege county, taking eight Tibetans into custody.They were detained on suspicion of involvement in the appearance of several anti-China protest leaflets and writings in the area.The Chinese force arrived in 24 vehicles, surrounded Rebpa village, entered the houses, and took them away.The names of those detained and other details are still unknown owing to the presence of Chinese security forces and other spies in the town.Another man, identified as Khega, was detained in Dzatoe on March 16.

Tibet : Five detained in Nagchu

Police detained five Tibetans in Nagchu prefecture in Tibet on suspicion of planning "anti-China activities".The men had met in a restaurant on March 9 to plan a protest the next day March 10, the 53rd anniversary of a failed 1959 Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule.They planned to call for Tibetan Independence , the return of the Dalai Lama, and the reopening of monasteries with full rights given to monks to study and practice religion.Alerted to the plan, Chinese police detained Karma Tharlam of Dathang town, Siga from Tsala town, and Dzomlha Kar at around 9:00 a.m. on March 10.

Dozens of Tibetans were injured after Chinese security forces fired tear gas and used explosives to disperse a crowd of protesters.Clashes occurred near the judicial complex in Ba county where Tibetans had gathered Sunday demanding the release of monks who were detained days earlier.The police fired tear gas and used explosives to disperse the mass protests. Tibet : Court sentences three monks in secret trial

Three Tibetan monks hailing from Tridu County in Yushul Tibet Autonomous Prefecture have been sentenced to varying prison terms in a secret court trail.Of the three, Sonam Gewa had been sentenced to two years while Lobsang Samten and Lobsang Nyima have been sentenced to one year and nice months each on Thursday in a court in Siling.It is unclear on what charges the monks have been sentenced to jail terms and the relatives had not been informed or called at the time of the court hearing.The families and relatives are still denied access even after court sentence.

A Tibetan farmer has set himself on fire in protest against the Chinese government in Rebkong County in the Malho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.Sonam Dhargye, aged 43, burnt himself to death at an intersection near the vegetable market in Rongpo town.The incident occurred today at around 9 am.Following the self-immolation, local Tibetans - both monastic and lay - gathered in large numbers at Dolma Ground, the compound used for holding prayers at the monastery, and held mass prayers.

Lobsang Tsultrim, a 20-year-old monk from the besieged Kirti monastery in the Ngaba region of eastern Tibet set his body on fire at around 5 pm local time.Lobsang set himself ablaze on the main street in the upper region of Ngaba town.Lobsang was enveloped in flames and raising slogans as he started marching up the main road.Upon seeing Chinese security personnel rushing towards him, Lobsang turned back but another security personnel present there struck him and he fell on the ground.The fire was extinguished and Lobsang Tsultrim was thrown into a police vehicle.
