Tibet : Security forces take away hundreds of Tibetans from Lhasa to unknown location

Hundreds of Tibetan pilgrims who were earlier arrested by the Chinese police on their way to Tibet from Nepal have been forcibly taken away in train to a undisclosed location, reports coming from Tibet say.The report says at around 10 am (Tibet time) 31 January Chinese security forces surrounded those Tibetans at the railway station in Tibet’s capital Lhasa and then put them in a train bound for China.Those Tibetan pilgrims had been recently arrested at numerous checkpoints en route to Tibet on their return journey from pilgrimage to Nepal and other places.

Monks and nuns have abandoned their monasteries preferring to leave rather than submit to new Chinese regulations.The exodus over the last two months comes amid an increasing crackdown by Chinese authorities following Tibetan protests and unprecedented self-immolations mostly by monks fed up with increasing religious curbs.The monks and nuns have already left their monasteries ( Driru ,Pekar, Choeling, Tagmo, Drubde ,Rachen ,Drongna and Jana) in the Nagchu prefecture.The monks are worried that they may be forced to return, because the Chinese officials are saying they have no authority to leav

Chinese authorities impose sweeping controls across Tibet

Authorities in Beijing have ramped up security across Tibet following deadly protests last week.The presence of security forces in Serthar is intense.The area is encircled by Chinese police and armed forces and Tibetan movements are restricted.Serthar was among three counties where Tibetans protested against Chinese rule last week and where at least six were killed and 60 injured, some critically. The other counties were Draggo and Dzamthang.Additional troops were moved from Chengdu command region.

Tibet : Four monks from Lhawang monastery arrested yesterday

The situation in eastern Tibet continues to remain grim following the severe clampdown enforced by the Chinese government.On 27th January, large numbers of armed Chinese forces have been stationed across the Barma Township besieging the region and preventing the residents from stepping out.Four monks from Lhawang monastery that lies three kilometers from Barma were arrested yesterday. There has been a continued state of unrest inside Tibet since then and the Chinese government has intensified the crackdown to control the protests.

Tibet : A Tibetan Arrested in Dzamtang County, One Shot Dead, Several Wounded

A Tibetan was arrested in Dzamtang County, Ngaba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (TAP) on 26 January at about 12PM (Tibet Time), for pasting a leaflet which states that the reason for the self-immolation protests was for freedom in Tibet and for the return of the Dalai Lama.It further said that until these demands are met, there is no chance that the campaign will stop.The youth is identified as Tharpa, son of Ripung Normo, from Barma Township in Dzamtang County. Tharpa had also written his name and pasted his photo on the leaflet, claiming himself responsible for the leaflet.

Tibet : Tibetan Arrested at Barkhor Square in Lhasa

A Tibetan man was arrested for distributing leaflets at Barkhor Square in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region.The arrest of Namkha Gyaltsen, aged 25, happened at around 5 pm (Tibet Local Time) on 25 January 2012.Sources informed TCHRD that police officers arrested Namkha Gyaltsen near the Nang-tse-shak building at Barkhor as he distributed leaflets that contained slogans for the swift return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and freedom for Tibet.Namkha Gyaltsen was born in Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai province.

Tibet : Tibetan killed in fresh protests

Another Tibetan was killed and several others seriously injured in police firings in eastern Tibet today.At 12 noon local time, a Tibetan man named Tharpa put up signed flyers around Zu To Bharma Shang, declaring that until the demands of the Tibetans who have self-immolated are met, Tibetans will never abandon their struggle and continue to organise more campaigns.In a release today, the exile base of Kirti monastery said that Tharpa had himself gone around the town putting up the flyers with his name clearly signed on it.

Tibet : China Boosts Security

Chinese authorities in Tibet are sending in additional security forces and imposing new restrictions in the region after several Tibetans were shot dead by security forces in bloody protests this week.Netizens posted photographs online of army trucks speeding along a highway in the direction of Tibetan regions of China's Sichuan province.In the first incident in Draggo county on Monday, up to six Tibetans were believed killed and more than 30 others injured when security forces fired on protesters, local sources said. Chinese authorities said only one Tibetan was shot dead.

Tibet : Respected Monk Succumbs To Torture

A highly respected Tibetan Buddhist monk who had championed the rights of Tibetans died on Sunday after allegedly undergoing torture in Tibet.Geshe Tsultrim Gyatso, who was 51, succumbed to injuries sustained in prison since his arrest in the Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in July 2011.Gyaltso was incapacitated and looked frail as the authorities handed him over to his family a few days ago following hospitalization.At the end of December, he was taken to a local hospital, owing to severe torture sustained in prison.

Two abbots along with seven monks of Karma Monastery at Chamdo County in Chamdo Prefecture were arrested around 29 October 2011, according to information received by TCHRD.Security officials arrested the abbots, Lodoe Rabsel (40 yrs old) and Namsey Sonam (44 yrs old) after they refused to cooperate with the officials conducting patriotic reeducation campaigns at the monastery. Tibet : Tibetan self-immolated in Ngaba,many people have been shot

Another Tibetan self-immolated in Ngaba today and there are reports of ongoing clashes between Chinese security forces and local Tibetans ,including monks inside Kirti monastery.The clashes were triggered when the body of a person who had self-immolated was removed or an attempt was made to remove them.At least one woman has been shot. Further unconfirmed reports allege that many people have been shot.

Chinese authorities have sentenced a Tibetan protester to prison after holding him for nine months during which he was beaten and tortured.Kalsang, a member of the Thangwa Mai Tragyal family, was handed a three-year term and placed in Miyang prison, near the provincial capital of Chengdu, a source in Tibet said, speaking on condition of anonymity.“He was 42 when he was taken away by Chinese police,” the source said.“He was detained at the Ngaba county detention center and was severely beaten and tortured,” the man said. “Then he disappeared for nine months.”

A well known Tibetan writer has been sentenced to four years in jail by a Chinese court in Tibet.Kalsang Tsultim, also known as Gyitsang Takmik was given the sentence on December 30, 2011 by the Kanlho Intermediate People’s Court.The sentence comes more than a year after Gyitsang Takmik, the author of the book Miyul La Phulwai Sempa (A Mind Offered to Exile) was re-arrested and held in detention without charge.He had widely circulated a Video Compact Disc (VCD) containing 'banned contents' that later made its way into exile as well.
