Wei Jingsheng Foundation Holds Conferences

The Wei Jingsheng Foundation in the United States organized a conference on Monday in the United States Capitol.The conference was about sixty-one years of Chinese Communist Party regime, as well as being a press conference for its newly translated book "Lessons in Democracy".Many representatives for the overseas democracy movement and human rights organizations attended and deliver their speeches.The conference was sponsored by 15 other overseas organizations besides the Wei Jingsheng Foundation.

Tibet : China arrests 2 monks in Lhoka after protests over teacher’s visit

Two monk officials of a monastery in Tibet’s Lhoka region have been arrested, following a protest by monks of the monastery against Chinese authorities earlier this month. Gyurmey Tenzin and an unidentified monk official of Mindroling monastery had approached the local Chinese authorities to allow Dralha Rinpoche - an heir lama to the throne of Mindroling, which is one of the six lineages within the Nyingmapa tradition ofTibetan Buddhism - to visit the monastery.

Tibet : Tibetan sentenced to 4 years' jail in Ngaba

The Ngaba County Intermediate People’s Court on September 25 sentenced a Tibetan man named Dhonko Gyakpa to 4 years in prison for concealing the whereabouts of and providing shelter to another Tibetan named Chodhar who was being looked for by the police.Chodhar, 34, a monk of Ngaba Kirti monastery was sentenced in April this year to 13 years’ jail for his alleged role in leading anti government protests during the nationwide protests in 2008. He had gone into hiding for almost a year.

China : Sichuan Court Jails Activists

Authorities in China's southwestern province of Sichuan have convicted 10 rights activists on charges of disturbing public order, handing down jail terms of up to three years in some cases.The sentences were handed down by the Central District People's Court in Leshan city on Tuesday, after the men staged a 2009 protest at a series of the court's decisions in recent years.Bao Junsheng was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for "gathering a crowd to disturb social order," while fellow activists Zeng Li and Huang Xiaomin received two-and-a-half-year sentences.

A popular Tibetan singer has evaded a police search for him following his release on CD of a song praising the Dalai Lama, according to sources in Tibet.“The Chinese authorities are looking for Pasang, but so far he has not been detained. His parents are worried about his fate,” a Tibetan man said, speaking from the regional capital Lhasa and giving the names of Pasang’s parents as Dawa Tsering, his father, and Dolkar, his mother.“The authorities blamed him for singing and recording politically sensitive themes in his songs.

Tibet : Student sentenced to 2 years in jail

A Tibetan who was detained in March for leading a protest against the Chinese government on the second anniversary of the 2008 nation-wide uprising has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.Thupten Nyima, who was detained in March was accused of leading protests by some 30 students from the Machu Tibetan Nationality Middle School.Over 500 other Tibetans later joined the student protest on March 14 this year. The protesters were demanding Tibetan independence and shouting against the lack of freedom. At least 40 people were detained following the protest.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived on Wednesday in Wroclaw, the capital of Lower Silesia in south western Poland, where he was due to give a lecture and meet with locals before continuing his tour of Europe.The exiled Tibetan leader arrived in Poland, following his visits to Hungary and Germany, at the invitation of the Mayor of Wroclaw, Mr. Rafal Dutkiewicz.His two-day visit will begin with a visit to the Solidarity Wroclaw exhibition, which was created in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Poland’s Trade Union “Solidarity” .

India : McMahon line intrusions by Chinese troops alleged

Chinese soldiers had crossed the McMahon Line into Arunachal Pradesh state of India at least four times this year, PTI news service Sep 21 cited an MP from the state, Mr Takam Sanjoy, as saying."We have specific information that they made four incursions in the Zemithang area to the northeast of Lumla in Tawang district. Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and I met the Prime Minister to tell him that the situation in Arunachal Pradesh is not good," the report quoted Sanjoy as saying.

Urgent Appeal:"Upstanding" Man on the Verge of Death in Chinese Prison Camp

A 55-year-old man is near death after suffering years of torture at the hands of Chinese police, according to multiple reports from China.A resident of Wuhan, Mr. Liu Yunchao (刘运潮) is being held at the Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang, Hubei Province.In July 2009, Liu was "sentenced" in a sham trial to three years in prison for practicing Falun Gong. After over a year of torture, twice in August 2010 -on August 8 and August 30 -Liu's family was notified that he was near death. Each time, they rushed to the prison to secure his access to a hospital and medical treatment.

SON OF UIGHUR ACTIVIST TORTURED IN PRISON

Alim Abdiriyim, son of Uighur activist Rebiya Kadeer, is being tortured and otherwise ill-treated in detention, according to his family. They believe his life is at risk. He has been in prison in Urumqi, in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China since 2006 on tax evasion charges.According to sources in China, Alim Abdiriyim has suffered a serious deterioration in his health and shows signs of physical and psychological trauma.

Tibet : Tibetan medicine graduates protest for job

Hundreds of graduates from the Institute of Tibetan Traditional Medicine in Tibet’s capital Lhasa have staged a protest Sep 2 in front of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) government headquarters, demanding increase in the number of jobs available to them.Some of them were reported to be carrying banners demanding an increase in jobs available to them over this year’s quota of just 60. The number of graduates from the institute this year alone was reported to be 256.School officials were said to have spoken with the protesters.

A Tibetan monk Wangdu Gyatso was sentenced for 13 Years by a local intermediate people's court in Chamdho, eastern Tibet on 8th September 2010 for protesting against the Chinese Government. On August 2, 2009 he went to Chando City alone and protested against the Chinese government, demanding a Free Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's return. At the time of his protest, Gyatso was studying Buddhist Philosophy at Palyul Monastery, Dege County, Eastern Tibet.

China : Falun Gong Practitioner Dies from Torture

A father of one in his mid-50's died in early August 2010, while serving a ten year "sentence" in a prison camp in northeast China, the Falun Dafa Information Center recently learned.According to sources inside China, Lu Manku died from torture-related injuries while in custody at the Nanguanling Prison in Dalian City, Liaoning Province.Lu had been taken into custody in early 2008 while he was making leaflets exposing the human rights abuses suffered by Falun Gong practitioners in China. On May 26, 2008, Lu was "sentenced" in a sham trial to ten years in prison.

Tibet : Kyegudo quake survivors to spent winter in tents

The rehousing project for the survivors of the devastating earthquake Apr 14 in Yulshul County of Qinghai Province will take up to three years, so most of the homeless, numbering over 120,000, would be temporarily sheltered in about 50,000 quilted tents, this winter, reported China’s official Xinhua news agency .Kyegudo Town covers 808 sq km and sits on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with an average elevation of 4,000 meters. The report said temperatures easily drop to freezing point at night during the winter.

Rising Star in Chinese Regime Implicated in Campaign’s Use of Torture

Two open letters signed by a group of Chinese lawyers, scholars, writers and journalists were sent to the Chinese Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate in late Aug., urging an investigation into the use of torture in the “hitting the black” campaign in Chongqing.The letters stated that although on the surface the purpose of the “hitting the black” campaign is to crack down on gangsters, in essence it is a campaign driven by political motives.

Nepal fights ghost protest from Tibetan exiles

Nepal deployed hundreds of security forces on the streets of its capital Kathmandu to prevent ‘anti-China demonstration’ by Tibetans on their Democracy Day of Sep 2, reported Himalayan Times online (Nepal) Sep 2. It cited Deputy Superintendent of Police Pradhumna Kumar Karki, Kathmandu Operation In-charge, as saying 600 police personnel had been mobilised in areas with high concentration of Tibetan exiles to stop them from coming out of their respective places.Tibetans generally do not stage demonstrations on this day and none was held in Kathmandu.

India : Rangzen meeting in Bylakuppe

The meeting was called under the banner of Wokar Tibet website run by reincarnate lama Shingza Rinpoche of Sera monastery. Southern Mongolians Detained for Protesting in Beijing

Five of eleven ethnic Mongolians along with one Chinese were arrested on August 12, 2010, in Beijing while they were protesting against the Chinese authorities’ discriminatory policy towards ethnic Mongolians in employment. After separate interrogations in Beijing, they were transferred back to their home place, Darhan Muumingan Holboot Banner (Da Mao Qi in Chinese, Banner is equivalent to county) of Bogot Municipality (Bao Tou Shi in Chinese), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR), for detention.
