India : Tibetans storm Chinese Embassy to mark Women's Uprising Day

Nepal:34 Tibetans held,3 given preventive detention order

Police in Nepal’s capital took into custody on Mar 10, the 51st anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day, a total of up to 34 Tibetans from around the city for taking part in protests against continued Chinese rule in their country. Besides, three Tibetans taken into on Mar 9 night were ordered to be held under preventive detention, reported myrepublica.com (Nepal) Mar 10.The report said Chief District Officer Laxmi Prasad Dhakal had ordered preventive detention for Keshang Medup, 33; Sonam Dendup, 30, and Sherap Dendup, 23.

Hundreds rounded up in Tibet crackdown

Hundreds of Tibetans are being rounded up and detained in Lhasa and armed paramilitary groups are patrolling the streets in advance of the anniversary of fatal riots in 2008, The Times has learnt. Authorities are anxious to avoid a repeat of the anti-Chinese attacks, in which about 20 people were killed when Tibetans rampaged through the city, setting fire to shops and offices.

"We strongly condemn the continuing brutal oppression of innocent Tibetans inside Tibet by China with death sentences, life imprisonment and arbitrary arrests and demand China to immediately release all innocent Tibetans", said Tsewang Rigzin, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress. He added, "The historic and peaceful uprising beginning on March 10th 2008 in Tibet will forever remain an inspiration for generations and we will continue to challenge the illegal Communist Chinese regime in Tibet until we regain Tibet's Independence".

Statement of 5 NGOs on 10th March,Tibetan Uprising Day

The 1959 Uprising marked the first spontaneous popular Tibetan uprising against Chinese invasion of Tibet. Almost the entire citizenry of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, assembled in front of Norbulingka, the summer palace, to protect their leader His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and to demand that the Chinese army leave Tibet. Since 1959, Tibetans inside Tibet and in exile have marked the National Tibetan Uprising Day.

China tightens security ahead of Tibet anniversary

China has tightened security in its Tibet Autonomous Region ahead of Wednesday's anniversary of a Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule, reports said. "In recent days, there are police officers on the street 24 hours and the police will check everyone from outside Tibet," a receptionist at the Xueyu Hotel in the regional capital Lhasa told the German Press Agency dpa by telephone."If you want to travel here, you'd better come after March," he said.March 10 marks the 51st anniversary of an unsuccessful Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule.

Chinese Land Official Says "Golden Lampstand Church will be destroyed"

A symbol of strength and unity for the 50,000-member Linfen Church Network, the central church building Jindengtai (Golden Lampstand) towers over the neighboring buildings in Linfen City. The building was confiscated by the Chinese government in the aftermath of the bloody attack and destruction of Fushan Church in September, 2009. Military police continue to surround the building around the clock, with soldiers stationed inside the building to prevent church members from gathering or entering. Now devastation is about to strike again.

China : Guangzhou Police Kidnap Pastor Wang Dao of Liangren Church

GUANGDONG--For more than two years, the Guangzhou police have harassed the house church believers of Liangren Church for their faith. In the boldest strike since last September, a mixed band of plain-clothed and uniformed PSB officers barged into the local restaurant at 3:20 PM on March 4, 2010, where Liangren Church Head Pastor Wang Dao was meeting with twelve brothers and sisters for a meal. According to eye-witnesses in the restaurant, the policemen threw Pastor Wang violently to the ground, without showing their ID badges or any official documentation.

Tibetan jailed for viewing "political content" on the web

A 25 year old Tibetan youth named Tashi has been arrested last month in Sog County, Nagchu Prefecture.
Ngawang Tharpa, a Tibetan exile from the region, said Tashi was arrested for viewing “political contents” on the Internet and contacting “outside elements of the Dalai Clique’s separatist forces”.

China detains hundreds of Tibetans in Lhasa under “Strike Hard Campaign”

China’s rural-urban income gap widest since 1978

Experts in China have warned that the gap in income between rural and urban residents in the country last year was the widest since the launch of reform in 1978. Think tank researchers have warned the gap will continue to widen in the coming years if effective measures to narrow the difference are not implemented soon, reported China’ official China Daily newspaper Mar 2.

Chinese provinces as rich as countries, Tibet poorest

China said Feb 28 that more and more of its major economic provinces were as rich as a country, with the gross domestic product (GDP) of Guangdong Province exceeding that of Saudi Arabia, Argentina and South Africa and ranking 16th in the G20. The Global Times, the international edition of People’s Daily, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China, said Mar 1 the GDP of some other provinces, including Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang, exceeded that of some G20 countries.
