India : Exile Tibetans condemn Nyakchuka clampdown with protest

The Tibetan Youth Congress carried out a protest in the Indian capital to condemn the Chinese government's crackdown on Tibetan petitioners in Tibet's Nyakchuka County. The largest Tibetan NGO, which seeks complete independence for Tibet ,demanded unconditional release of Trulku Tenzin Delek, a widely respected Tibetan master currently in Chinese prison.

Life hard for Tibetan nomads

On Dec 30, China’s party mouthpiece People’s Daily Online reported that the 50,000 Tibetan herders who had “left” the Sanjiangyuan area in Qinghai Province were encountering many problems such as how to remove the language barrier and find jobs after they were settled in urban areas.
The nomads were forced to settle in numerous new urban clusters. One such cluster was the Kunlun Ethnic Culture Village, built in Golmud, and used to settle 1,700 Tibetan herders in 2006.

Internet Censorship Tightens in China

Latest attempt only spawns circumvention
Several hundred thousand Web sites in China have been blocked as Chinese officials quietly carry out a new Internet censorship program, according to industry insiders.
There have been no public announcements regarding the shutdowns.
A so-called “white list” has been created. It is a list of Web sites that have been registered and certified to have no undesirable content.
Web sites that are not on the white list can no longer be viewed by Web surfers in China.

Nepali PM assures Premiere Wen of no-anti China activities in Nepal

Nepal's prime minister said Tuesday his government would not tolerate any anti-China demonstrations in the Himalayan nation as he met with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing, state media reported.
"The Nepalese government... believes that Taiwan and Tibet are inalienable parts of the Chinese territory," Madhav Kumar Nepal told Wen Jiabao in comments reported on China's state television CCTV.

Nepal "will not allow any forces to use Nepalese territory to engage in anti-China activities."

Tibet : China bans religious event in Barkham County

China has put a ban on an annual religious congregation of Tibetan monks in Barkham County, and warned monks of arrest or closure of the host monastery if they went ahead with the event.
Security checkpoints had been built at various areas around the monastery and there is a strict monitoring of people and activities in the area.

Tibet : Phurbu Tsering Rinpoche sentenced to over eight years in prison

A Chinese court in Dhartsedo has sentenced Tulku Phurbu Tsering Rinpoche , a renowned Tibetan Lama in Kardze , to over eight years in prison. The sentence was passed by Dhartsedo Intermediate People's Court around 24 December, 2009.
Chinese police arrested Rinpoche on 18 May 2008 for ‘alleged’ possession of weapons..
Rinpoche is currently held at Dhartsedo prison.

China Targets Political Foes After Dissident Trial

BEIJING—A senior Chinese police official has vowed "pre-emptive attacks" against threats to Communist Party control, in a speech published days after the nation's most prominent dissident was jailed for criticising the Party.
Vice Minister for Public Security Yang Huanning said the government faced undiminished risks to control, despite fast economic growth, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Interpol order out for retired Chinese leaders’ Falun Gong persecution

An Argentine federal judge has on Dec 17 asked Interpol to issue an arrest warrant against former Chinese president Jiang Zemin and former security chief Luo Gan after four years of investigating charges of torture and genocide against Falun Gong practitioners. China has condemned the ruling, saying this was not the first time such order has been issued against its leaders. Its Foreign Ministry said Dec 24 that such overseas court rulings that support Falun Gong were hurting China's relations with those countries.

Liu Xiaobo jailed for subversion

Leading Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been jailed for 11 years for "inciting subversion of state power".
The trial, from which Western diplomats and journalists were barred, followed Mr Liu's co-authorship of a document last year urging political reform.
Several people were apparently hurt at a Hong Kong protest over the sentence.
"All I can tell you now is 11 years," the defendant's wife, Liu Xia, told reporters. Diplomats said they were told by Mr Liu's lawyers that he had been deprived of his political rights for a further two years.

East Turkestan : China sentences five to death over riots

The sentences bring the number of people condemned to die over the riots to a total of 22.
Five more were sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, a sentence often commuted to life in prison.
Nine people were executed last month.
Reports suggest that the five sentenced to death were Uighurs.

China : 10 Chinese Church Leaders Detained

Christmas is just around the corner, but for some Christians in northern China there isn’t much to celebrate.
In November, five religious leaders in Linfen City, Shanxi Province, were sentenced to three to seven years criminal detention. They were found guilty of “illegally occupying farm land” and “disturbing transportation through a mass gathering.” The trial followed a mass prayer by members of the Linfen-Fushan Church.

China : Under “Rule of Law” Veneer, 863 Falun Gong Practitioners Illegally Sent to Prison Camps for Up to 18 Years

The Communist Party is using its influence over judges within China’s court system to send an unprecedented number of innocent Chinese to prison camps because of their religious belief, the Falun Dafa Information Center reported on Monday. The Center released a list of 863 Falun Gong practitioners recently given prison terms of up to 18 years following sham trials (list). Argentine Judge Orders Arrest of Top Chinese Communist Party Officials for Crimes Against Humanity

In a landmark decision, an Argentine judge indicted and ordered the local Interpol department to seek the arrest of two high-ranking Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials on Thursday for their role in crimes against humanity committed against Falun Gong practitioners. The ruling follows a similar decision in Spain last month, when the Spanish National Court indicted five top CCP leaders for their involvement in genocide and torture against Falun Gong.

20 Year Old in Shenzhen About To Be Sentenced for Crime of Subversion, Facing Heavy Penalty of 10 Years in Prison

Sentence will be pronounced against him at the end of the month for "subverting state power." Huge deployment of Chinese military in Lhasa

Hundreds of police and armed Chinese military personnel were deployed in front of the main Tibetan temple, 'Jokhang,' in Tibet’s capital of Lhasa, on 10 December, which was both the 20th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's reception of the Nobel Peace Prize, and World Human Rights Day.

Tibetans are still coming.Some are avoiding roadblocks by walking over the hills. Some are refusing to leave, even when finding themselves blocked by large contingents of security forces who have warned the crowds of possible violent repercussions.
The reports are sketchy (in many places in Kardze public phones have been removed to stop people from reporting events ) and some are still not confirmed, but they point to hundreds of detentions, injuries, hunger strikes, and towns under curfew.

Hundreds of China workers clash over factory site

Twenty-six people were wounded when more than 300 Chinese workers battling for control of a factory site in Guangdong province clashed with explosives, rocks and steel pipes, state media said on Friday.
The flare-up, which illustrates the difficulties of industrial restructuring in China, happened on Thursday when a team from Shenzhen Qiushuo Investment and Development Co. arrived on the site of a concrete pipe manufacturer, after winning it in a court-administered auction, Xinhua news agency said.
