Strategic Change in the USA - Wei Jingsheng

In the last a couple weeks, there has been non-stop criticism over US President Obama's China visit, not just by the US media, but also by the European media. These news media repeatedly used words such as "weak", "empty handed", "gave up principles", "incompetent", etc. This language reflects the average people's disappointment in President Obama. The US parties on both the left and right are even more disappointed. The leaders of the Democratic Party are still trying to hold their voices. But among the opposition party, some Republican Congressmen could not hold their anger anymore.

Work is Dirty in China's Mines, and Especially Dangerous

A gas explosion in a coal mine in Northeast China killed 107 workers on Nov. 21, according to official media, a recent example of the dangers the under regulated and often unscrupulous industry poses for Chinese laborers.
The accident happened in the early hours of the morning at the Xinxing Coal Mine in Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province; 528 workers were underground at the time. Xinhua, the official media of the Chinese Communist Party, says the explosion occurred due to negligence.

Chinese AIDS Activist Held

Henan activist Tian Xi is detained.
HONG KONG—Authorities in the Chinese capital have detained an AIDS activist from the southern province of Henan after he tried to use World AIDS Day to highlight the plight of people living with HIV in poverty-stricken rural China.
Tian Xi, 22, who lives with HIV, said in an interview from his home in Henan’s Xincai county that local officials were currently guarding the door of his home.

“Some people from the neighborhood committee are watching my home, so it’s hard for me to speak,” Tian said.

Through a review of individual cases, the book uncovers the making of a man-made disaster led by Chinese Communist Party (CCP)officials. She asserts that millions have been victimized because of the blanket of silence and misinformation imposed by the communist regime.

Tongkor shooting survivor reaches exile with a harrowing tale

Dorjee Rinchen, 18, a monk survivor from last year’s Tongkor Monastery shooting incident recently came into exile, testified to the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) about his harrowing near death experience when a huge contingent of Chinese security forces indiscriminately fired at peaceful protesters in Tongkor, Kardze County on 3rd April 2008.

China house church leaders sentenced

BEIJING — A court in northern China has sentenced five leaders of an unauthorized Protestant church to prison terms of up to seven years on charges including illegal assembly, rights groups reported Thursday.
The sentences are among the harshest in recent years for members of so-called "house churches" — congregations that refuse to register and accept the authority of the government's Religious Affairs Bureau.

Germany :Police raid homes of alleged Chinese spies

Munich investigators on Tuesday searched the apartments of four alleged Chinese agents on suspicion they have been spying on the city's Uighur community, news magazine Der Spiegel reported.
Authorities told the magazine that the Chinese general consulate has been running a spy network from the Bavarian capital, where several hundred Muslim Uighurs form one of the largest communities outside of China.

Chinese ex-president sought in Spanish probe: lawyer

A Spanish judge wants to question former Chinese president Jiang Zemin and four other Chinese Communist Party officials over allegations of torture and genocide against the Falun Gong, a lawyer for the spiritual movement said Thursday.
Judge Ismael Moreno of the National Court made the decision after concluding a preliminary inquiry, Falun Gong lawyer Carlos Iglesias said.
The Supreme Court in 2006 ordered Moreno to probe a complaint for genocide filed two years earlier by the Falun Gong and which had initially been rejected.

Chinese Human Rights Activist Continues Appeal at Tokyo Airport

Chinese human rights activist Feng Zhenghu, who has been denied entry into his homeland eight times, continues his protest in Japan by camping out at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. He is surviving on food donated by passengers and water from public bathrooms.
Feng has now spent more than two weeks at the airport since his last attempt to enter Shanghai on Nov. 4. At that time, upon landing in Shanghai, Chinese police promptly forced him back onto the All Nippon Airways plane, refusing to allow the Japanese plane to depart without him.

Chinese Human Rights Attorney Jiang Tianyong and His Wife Beaten in Front of Their Daughter

BEIJING--At 7:40 AM (Beijing time) on Nov. 19, Jiang Tianyong and his wife attempted to leave their home to take their daughter to school, when they were barred from leaving by Public Security Bureau officers, assembled at the gate of their apartment building. Before Jiang could reason with them, four officers grabbed him violently and began holding him down and beating him severely. A police officer named Wang Tao threw his wife to the ground and began pummeling her as well.

US recognises Tibet as part of China: Obama

Beijing (IANS) -- US President Barack Obama on Tuesday said that the US Government recognises Tibet as a part of China.
He also said that the US supported the early resumption of dialogue between the Chinese government and representatives of the Dalai Lama to resolve any concerns and differences that the two sides may have.

"The US respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China," Xinhua quoted Obama as saying at a joint press conference with Chinese President Hu Jintao here.

Were Tibetan writers’ long jail sentences a pre-emptive response to Obama’s comments?

As US President Barack Obama used the Shanghai leg of his China visit to call for an end to online censorship, it emerged that a Chinese court has sentenced Tibetan writer and photographer Kunga Tseyang to five years in prison on various charges including posting articles on the Internet. Two days before, literary website editor Kunchok Tsephel has meanwhile been sentenced to 15 years in prison on a charge of "divulging state secrets".

Tibet : Tibetan Writer Gunga Tsangyang Sentenced to Five Years

Tibetan writer and photographer Mr Gunga Tsangyang was sentenced to five years' imprisonment on Saturday by the Chinese People's Intermediate Court.
Mr Tsangyang, whose pen name is Gangnyi, or 'Snow Sun', was convicted on three counts, in the Amdho area of south Guangzhou Province, Tibet. He faced charges of writing 'splittist' articles, breaching national security, and communicating with Shingsa Rinpoche, an exiled Buddhist leader who lives in south India.

The arrest was apparently made because of political essays Mr Tsangyang published on the website Zindris, or 'Jottings'.

Kunchok Tsephel, an official in a Chinese government environmental department and founder of the influential Tibetan literary website, Chodme (‘Butter-Lamp’, www.tibetcm.com), has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of disclosing state secrets.

Nel novembre 2003, la corte del popolo del distretto di Chengguan, città di Lanzhou, ha condannato il signor Wen a otto anni di detenzione con l’accusa di dare asilo ad un sospettato.

China tightens control on Tibetans ahead of Obama visit

As US President Barack Obama arrives in Chinese city of Shanghai today on his maiden trip to China, there is an apparent fear among the Chinese authorities of fresh protests by Tibetans. According to Tsering, a monk of Kirti monastery here, the Chinese government had set up check posts and barriers at several points in Ngaba region, that last year saw major spur of anti- China protests.
