Nepal police detain Tibetans

KATMANDU ,July 14 (AP) - POLICE broke up a pro-Tibet demonstration in front of the United Nations office in Nepal's capital on Tuesday and detained dozens of protesters.
Tibetans in Nepal have held several demonstrations in the past year to demand an end to Chinese rule in their homeland and denounce the alleged killings of Tibetans by Chinese troops during last year's anti-government riots in Lhasa.

But the government issued a fresh warning last week saying participants in any protests against China would face imprisonment.

China demands Turkish retraction

China has demanded that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan retract his accusation that Beijing practised genocide against ethnic Uighurs.
China's rejection of Mr Erdogan's remarks came in an editorial headlined "Don't twist facts" in the English-language newspaper China Daily.

UYGHURS AND CHINESE CAN LIVE TOGETHER IN PEACE IN EAST TURKESTAN

The efforts being made today to stir up ethnic conflict in East Turkestan are extremely dangerous. Our Muslim brothers in East Turkestan have been subjected to various difficulties for the last 60 years or so, but have never turned to violence and conflict. The Uyghur Turks are a noble people, known for their good manners, honesty, fortitude, reconciliatory natures, obedience to the state, loyalty and devotion.

Xinjiang Energy Risk Rises

China's energy risk grows with reliance on Xinjiang.
BOSTON--China's growing energy reliance on Xinjiang has raised risks for China's government as it tries to control unrest in the far northwestern region, experts say.
The outbreak of deadly riots in Urumqi on July 5 has been linked to the killing of two Uyghur migrant workers in an ethnic attack at a toy factory in southern Guangdong province on June 26.

But the violence also follows years of tension over the government's "Develop the West" program, focusing on Xinjiang's energy resources and strategic links to Central Asia.

China Detains Reporters in Urumqi

After days of ethnic violence in Xinjiang's capital, Chinese authorities detain several journalists covering the unrest.
HONG KONG--Authorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) detained a number of foreign journalists covering the recent ethnic violence in Urumqi, including a reporter for RFA's Cantonese service.

Freelance journalist Heidi Siu Chun-yee traveled to Urumqi July 7 following rioting which left 186 people dead, according to official figures.

Police Kill 2 Uighur Men, Wound 3rd in Urumqi

Police shot dead two Uighur men and wounded a third a week after deadly riots erupted in this city.
Three men with knives come out of a mosque and attack a group of paramilitary police standing in a cluster along the road.
Riot police then chased them, beat them and fired shots.
A few hours later a large splotch of blood smudged the street. Squads of helmeted riot police took up positions on the road, which was closed to traffic.

Exiled Leader Blames China

A prominent exile Uyghur leader says China prompted violent ethnic clashes in the country’s northwest.
WASHINGTON —China’s government is stirring up ethnic tensions that have led to Chinese violence against the mostly Muslim Uyghur ethnic minority in the country’s northwest, according to Uyghur activist Rebiya Kadeer.
The leader of the Washington-based Uyghur American Association and Munich-based World Uyghur Congress said the people of China aren't to blame for the recent wave of violence in Urumqi because they were being led astray by a “tyrannical” government.

Oil Tank Fire In East Turkestan

An oil tank blew up at a chemical plant in Urumqi.
Refinery officials discovered the 10,000 cubic meter storage tank burning at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, and it was extinguished by 10:30 a.m.
The refinery, belonging to Urumqi Chemical Co, a unit of China National Petroleum Co, parent of PetroChina, is operating normally.
The Xinhua news agency released the news only on its English language service without giving an explanation for the blast.

Urumqi: a Quiet "Open Prison"

A man contacted by RFA in Urumqi tells about his fears while the official Chinese media strive to portray a city under control and life back to normal.
Official Chinese media are describing the city of Urumqi as “quiet” following several days of ethnic violence between Muslim Uyghurs and the majority Han Chinese.

“Major streets in Urumqi seemed peaceful Friday,” said the official Xinhua news agency.

“Life back to normal in Urumqi,” said a caption over a Xinhua picture showing residents buying vegetables in a market.

Hundreds Protest at Beijing South Railway Station

Nearly 500 petitioners gathered at the Beijing South Railway Station on July 7 to protest the authorities’ persistent crackdown on petitioners.
The protest started at around 11 a.m. and lasted nearly one hour before the police forcibly dispersed the crowd. Three protesters were arrested.

A protester surnamed Liu said that the petitioners protested out of despair for China’s petition system.

Turkey attacks China 'genocide'

Turkey's prime minister has described ethnic violence in China's Xinjiang region as "a kind of genocide".
"There is no other way of commenting on this event," Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
He spoke after a night-time curfew was reimposed in Xinjiang's capital, Urumqi, where Muslim Uighurs and Han Chinese clashed last Sunday.
The death toll from the violence there has now risen from 156 to 184, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reports. More than 1,000 people were injured.

BEIJING — As ethnic Han gangs roamed the streets of Urumqi on Tuesday at dusk, seeking revenge against Muslim Uighur rioters who killed scores of Han two nights earlier, a balding Communist Party bureaucrat abruptly appeared on the city’s television screens to call for calm.

Mosques in the city were ordered to remain closed on Friday - but at least two opened at the request of crowds of Muslim Uighurs that gathered outside.
Thousands of people are reportedly trying to leave the city.
News of the curfew came as hundreds of Muslim Uighurs defied an order to stay at home for Friday prayers.
Officials had posted notices outside Urumqi's mosques instructing people to stay at home to worship on Friday, the holiest day of the week in Islam.
But worshippers gathered outside a number of mosques in the city demanding to be allowed in.

Clampdown on Uyghur Cities

Chinese security forces crack down on cities with large Uyghur populations.
HONG KONG—Chinese security forces imposed an uneasy peace on several major cities in the restive Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) Thursday, with residents reporting a heavy security presence in Kashgar and Ili prefectures.
Police and armored vehicles were patrolling the streets of Gulja (in Chinese, Yining), capital of the Ili Kazakh Prefecture, residents said.
"Now the situation in Gulja city is very tense," one Uyghur man said.

Members of Congress Urge President Obama to Support Falun Gong Practitioners in China

WASHINGTON DC -In a bi-partisan letter sent to President Obama yesterday, sixty one members of Congress urged the President to "speak very clearly and specifically" in support of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

A Tibetan monk of Labrang Monastery in Sangchu County (Ch:Xiahe Xian ) Kanlho (Ch: Gannan) “Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture” (‘TAP’) Gansu Province was arbitrarily abducted from his residence during a raid in May this year, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).

HONG KONG—An outspoken economist from China's Uyghur ethnic minority, whose blog was cited for allegedly instigating deadly ethnic clashes in Xinjiang, has gone silent and his whereabouts are unknown after he reported police had summoned him from his Beijing home.

Police Reinforced in Urumqi

Chinese paramilitary police move into a tense and battle-scarred city after deadly clashes.
HONG KONG—Chinese authorities in the restive northwestern Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) sent paramilitary police reinforcements into the regional capital Urumqi on Wednesday, placing the city under effective martial law.
Many residents, both majority Han Chinese and ethnic minority Muslim Uyghurs, were still armed and fearful of further violence, however.
Foreign correspondents on the ground in Urumqi said they had been told to leave as soon as possible.

According to several Uyghur eyewitnesses, paramilitary forces started to shoot at any Uyghur protester on sight in the evening, chasing them around in alleyways, and killed an estimated number of 800 young Uyghurs.

Brevi dal Tibet occupato

- Bathang : Il 25 Giugno la polizia politica cinese ha arrestato Tashi con l’accusa di aver” cospirato” con altri tibetani per compiere attentati contro una stazione di polizia e di aver esposto uno striscione di protesta nella contea di Bathang. Non sappiamo dove sia detenuto.

- Phenpo Lhundrup County :Peggiorano le condizioni di Nyima Tenzin, arrestato e torturato per aver preso parte ad una manifestazione nel marzo 2008.

Le ragioni di una rivolta

Una premessa
Oggi per completare la pulizia etnica nei territori occupati il regime cinese alimenta ,con un sapiente uso dei media di stato ,le tensioni “razziali” e cerca di contrapporre ai contadini ed agli operai uyghuri e tibetani in rivolta i coloni frustrati da anni di inutili sacrifici.
I gerarchi alimentano il “nazionalismo” Han additando i rivoltosi come responsabili delle violenze scatenate dalla polizia cinese,come barbari ingrati che impediscono il decollo dell’economia coloniale.

Gli elicotteri sorvolano la città mentre nei quartieri uyghuri si erigono barricate.
