Students Expelled From School in Kanlho

Two students of KanlhoTibetan Middle School were expelled from their school on 19 June 2009 for their involvement in peaceful protest on 24 April 2009, according to confirm information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy(TCHRD).

The expelled students were identified as Dolma Tashi a.k.a. Dolta, 21 years old and Dolma Bum a.k.a.Dolbum, 22 years old, both hailed from Sangkhok Township, Sangchu County,Gansu Province.

New York—A Falun Gong practitioner imprisoned in Harbin’s Daqing Prison died on May 23, 2009 due to abuse in custody, the Falun Dafa Information Center recently learned. Mr. Li Min died at the age of 51, after being tortured and denied medical care when he suffered the symptoms of a stroke.

50th founding anniversary of Chushi Gangdruk concluded in Delhi

The welfare society of Central Dhokham Chushi Gang Druk, was founded 50 years ago. The anniversary celebration was concluded on June 16 in Delhi at the Tibetan Sanye Ling settlement; ceremonies began with a moment of silence and guests singing the national anthem. The chief guests included former Justice commission of Tibet exile government Shadur Sonam Sangpo, former speaker of Tibetan Parliament in exile Mr. Karma Choephel and a representative of Tibetan parliament, Geshe Tse Ringpo.

Hong Kong Youths Plan Hunger Strike on July 1

HONG KONG—As July 1 approaches, several young Hong Kong citizens are calling for a voluntarily hunger strike to fight for democracy.
Jaco Chau, 25 years old, called on Hong Kong Internet users to fight for democracy together. He said that a hunger strike was the most direct way to express sincerity, where everyone can feel the significance behind it, “It is not enough to depend on members of the legislative body to fight for democracy and general election. We need a sense of autonomy.”

A Tibetan arrested for suspected of being behind of a bomb blast in Tibet: report

A report from Tibet said, that Mr. Tashi, a Tibetan and a local official from Bhathang county eastern Tibet, was arrested on his way home on 19 June suspected of organization of a bomb attack in Tibet at the height of anti-China protests nearly three months ago.
Before the arrest many protesters suspected of hanging politically motivated banners in the area managed to escape.

The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) commemorates the twelfth anniversary of the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture to recognize the pain and suffering that victims and survivors of torture throughout the world has gone through. The day reminds us that torture is a crime and provides us with an opportunity to stand united and voice our opinion against torture, a cruel violation of human rights.

Nepal police arrest Tibetan protesters near Tibet border

Dharamsala, June 26: - Thirty-five Tibetans, including eight women, were reportedly arrested by Nepal police Friday near the Tibetan border as they tried to cross over and stage a protest march in Tibet as part of a “Free Tibet” campaign.
The group of Tibetan exiles, some of whom are said to have Nepali citizenship or ID cards, left from a Buddhist monastery in the capital early in the morning, according IANS. They left Kathmandu around 4am today as the world observed the "International Day Against Torture".

Spain curbs global reach of its courts

Spanish legislators voted Thursday to change a law that let judges indict Osama bin Laden and Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, narrowing its scope to cases with a clear link to this country and yielding to criticism that Spain should not act like a global cop.
The reform will not be retroactive, so the dozen or so cases now being investigated at the National Court will continue, the Justice Ministry said.
These include investigations of alleged Chinese abuses in Tibet.

China rights lawyer beaten, stripped by police

SHANGHAI (AFP) – A human rights group has condemned Chinese police for allegedly stripping and beating a prominent Shanghai lawyer during a nine-hour detention last week.
Police summoned Zheng Enchong, who has advised residents claiming to have been forcibly evicted, on Wednesday as part of an "economic investigation", the Hong Kong-based China Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group said.
Calls to the Shanghai police went unanswered and Zheng was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday.

China : Liu Xiaobo Formally Arrested, Accused of “Inciting Subversion of State Power”

Xinhua News Agency announced on June 24, 2009, that the formal arrest of independent intellectual and Independent Chinese PEN Center president Liu Xiaobo on charges of “inciting subversion of state power” was approved by the Beijing procuratorate on June 23. Liu has been detained since he was subpoenaed by the Beijing police on December 8, 2008, in connection with his signing of Charter 08. The Beijing Public Security Bureau claims that Liu has incited the subversion of state power and the overturn of the socialist system through the fabrication of rumors and slander.

China jails Tibetan for three years over messages about unrest

Beijing, DPA, 23 Jun 2009 - A court in south-western China sentenced a Tibetantour guide to three years in prison after convicting him of "inciting separatism" by sending email and text messages about unrest among Tibetans, a US-based rights group said on Tuesday. The Dui Hua Foundation circulated copies of two court documents for the first trial and appealed the sentence of Gonpo Tserang, 32, in the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture ofYunnan province.

The fate of Sertha monk remains unknown year after arrest

The fate of a Tibetan Buddhist monk from the famous Larung Gar Buddhist Institute of Sertha in present-day Sichuan Province, who was arrested last year during the pan –Tibet protest, remains unknown year after the incident, according to information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD).

Tibetans in Gyama clash with police, 3 injured

The residents of Gyama Township ,near Lhasa,are protesting against a mining company that is carrying out a water-diversion project in Gyama region.
The large-scale facility is being built to channelize water to the mining site. The pipes are laid across agricultural lands, which have been forcefully taken away from farmers without compensations. The mining has been going on in the upper hills of Gyama for nearly two decades. Toxic wastes dumped into Gyama Shingchu river resulted in the death of a large number of cattle last year.

Tibetan TV Dishes Pulled

Tibetans cite a new government effort to control what news they hear.
KATHMANDU—Chinese authorities have begun to remove satellite dishes in a Tibetan-populated region of China in an effort to block access to foreign broadcasts, according to Tibetan sources.
Tibetan-language broadcasts by Radio Free Asia and Voice of America appear to be particular targets of the campaign, one source said.

Breaking News: 70,000-strong Protest in China's Hubei Province Met by Riot Police

In China's Hubei province, as many as 70,000 residents from Shishou city have been protesting in the streets starting June 19, and continuing through today, June 20.
There have been repeated confrontations between residents and police. Police in riot gear are using anti-riot vehicles and fire trucks, tossing tear gas grenades into the crowd, and spraying high-pressure water hoses at residents. Residents are fighting back by hurling rocks, bricks, and glass bottles.

Dalai Lama says favors democratic leadership

DHARAMSALA, India (Reuters) - The Dalai Lama has encouraged Tibetans in exile to embrace the democratic system of electing a leader, saying it was essential to keep step with the larger world and to ensure the continuity of their government.
In a video clip shown to hundreds of monks, nuns and lay people in the northern Indian hill town of Dharamsala late on Saturday, the 73-year-old also said it was no longer essential to thrust spiritual and political leadership on one person.

New round of detentions is reported in China's northwesternmost region

Authorities the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), home to the mostly Muslim Uyghur ethnic minority, have detained a number of youths in an anti-separatism campaign ahead of the sensitive 60th anniversary of communist rule, sources in the region said.

The latest "100-day Strike Hard" campaign was launched following a nationwide teleconference by Beijing's ministry of public security in April, which called on police departments across the country to be especially vigilant as the Communist Party prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary on Oct. 1.

Clashes, Detentions in Tibet

More tensions and arrests are reported in eastern Tibet.
HONG KONG—Tibetan sources report escalating tensions in an eastern area of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), and a Chinese police official there says five people have been detained and sentenced in a police crackdown.
“The Tibetans are very bold and aggressive these days. We had no choice but to order severe actions on the protestors,” a police official in Chamdo prefecture, in the eastern part of the TAR, said in a telephone interview.
“We had to crack down on the Tibetan protesters in Jomda [in Chinese, Jiangda] county", he said.
