DIIR submits report on ‘torture against Tibetan people’ to the UN

Geneva: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), through its Tibet Bureau based in Geneva, submitted a report on “ the continuing use of torture against the Tibetan people” to “the United Nations Committee Against Torture on Violations by the People’s Republic of China Against The People of Tibet”, on 29 September.The report details narrative of events from 2000 to 2008, presenting evidence of torture used against Tibetan people under the political and religious repression imposed by the Chinese government in Tibet.

We are Falun Gong practitioners who are detained at the Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. We have the following requests:

Convention of the National Democratic Party of Tibet

The 5th National Convention of the National Democratic Party of Tibet was successfully held at the Toepa Community hall and the convention was attended by the heads of different Tibetan NGOs and associations.
The three days convention discussed and debated on various Tibet related issues and the organization's future activities. The convention was concluded by electing the new executive members of the NDPT.

The elected Centrex members are as follows:

Five Ramoche monks missing since April raid

The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) expresses its deepest concern over the fate of former Chanzoe (manager and the treasurer) Sonam Rabgyal and four other monks of Ramoche Temple, whose whereabouts could not be ascertained since their arrest during a midnight raid in monks' residence on 7 April 2008.

Veteran Military Cadres Propose Hunger Strike Relay

Some veteran military cadres have proposed a hunger strike relay on the Internet, calling on over three million ex-military cadres to participate in the relay to defend their rights. The campaign is intended to urge authorities to consider the welfare of discharged military cadres.

Tibetans Observe ‘Black Day’ in Mysore

Mysore, September 28- The Tibetans in South India took out a massive Candle Light March in Mysore city to mark the September 27, 1987 the greatest ever independence demonstration in Tibet since 1959. The Tibetans all over the world observe the Day as ‘Black Day’. The Mysore Candle Light March was organized jointly by the South Indian Chapters of Tibetan Rights and Freedom Restoration Committee, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Regional Tibetan Women’s Association of Hunsur, Kollegal and Bylakuppe Settlements.

Two police women move in with Zeng Jinyan for 24 hour surveillance

Zeng Jinyan, wife of renowned human rights advocate Hu Jia, has suffered serious implications since Hu’s arrest. Two policewomen have moved into Zeng’s home in order to monitor her 24 hours round clock. During the Olympic Games, Zeng was banished from Beijing, and was transferred through Dalian and Shijiazhuang, before being returned to Beijing on August 30th.

Jailed Chinese Dissident's Health Poor

BEIJING—The health of a jailed Buddhist Chinese dissident outspoken on Tibet and other sensitive topics, is poor and he is not being allowed to communicate freely with his family, according to a source who met him recently.
Hu’s wife, Zeng Jinyan, disappeared prior to the Olympics and is believed to be under house arrest in an undisclosed location.
Hu Jia was found guilty of "inciting subversion of state power" in April for criticising the ruling Communist Party, a verdict that drew quick condemnation from the United States, Britain and the United Nations.

The Current Situation of Human Rights in China: report preface

In June 2008, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders published its 2007 World Human Rights Report. A collaborative project between the Paris-based International Federation for Human Rights (IFHR) and the Geneva-based World Organization Against Torture, the Report is one of the most important human rights reports in the world. The 2007 report enumerated how the Chinese government further repressed dissidents and arrested protesters before the Olympics. Mr. Wei Jingsheng wrote the preface for the China section of the 2007 International Human Rights Report.

Chinese Writer Speaks on Repression on Tibetan Religion and Culture

Dharamsala: Tibetan Buddhism is the spirit of Tibet, and the biggest offence to Tibetans is to insult this spirit. Although the Chinese constitution stipulates the freedom of religious belief, this "freedom" does not exist in Tibet, and many obstructions are set to keep people away from their belief, Ms Zhu Rui, a Han Chinese writer, said in an interview with The Epoch Times.

China's grip still firm on Tibetan area

On the edge of Tibetan towns in this western province, special police officers carrying rifles stand guard behind checkpoints made of sandbags.
Inside the towns, convoys of police vehicles drive up and down the streets. Security personnel stop shoppers and question them.

Six months after Tibetans staged riots and protests against Chinese rule, Beijing still maintains a tight grip on this largely Tibetan area.

Locals say their lives have not yet returned to normal, and many people arrested during the March unrest are still in prison.

Mercoledi mattina un monaco del monastero di Kirti ,situato nella zona di Ngaba , è stato selvaggiamente percosso dalla polizia comunista ed al suo ritorno al monastero i religiosi hanno deciso di protestare contro il pestaggio.
I monaci hanno così cercato di raggiungere in corteo la stazione di polizia ma gli agenti hanno chiesto l’intervento dei reparti speciali che da mesi stazionano alla periferia della città.
Nel giro di pochi minuti sul luogo sono giunti due veicoli con decine di militari che hanno immediatamente aggredito i manifestanti.

More cases of Enforced and Involuntary Disappearance surfaces from Tibet

In the recent few months after the outbreak of the major protests across the Tibetan plateau since March 10, 2008, a few more cases of, particularly, the enforced and involuntary disappearance of Tibetans are beginning to surface. According to the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), there are at least more than a thousand Tibetans whose current whereabouts and well being remains completely unknown to their family members and their affiliated monasteries.

Beijing Resident Killed During Olympics for Practicing Falun Gong

Neighborhood security agent confirms death, wife still in labor camp
NEW YORK (FDI) – An elderly Falun Gong practitioner from Chaoyang district in Beijing, home to the Bird’s Nest Stadium, died from injuries incurred in custody two days before the close of the 2008 Olympic Games, the Falun Dafa Information Center reported on Wednesday.
Mr. Wang Chongjun , age 65, died at home on August 23, 2008 after being injected with an unknown drug in a Beijing labor camp, according to sources in China. His wife, Ms. Wang Zhiqin, remains illegally detained and is unaware of her husband’s death.

Tibetan journalist whereabouts still unknown week after arrest

The whereabouts of a Tibetan journalist, Rangjung, who was arrested around midnight on 11 September 2008 by Sertha County Public Security Bureau official from his home for unknown reason, still remains unknown. According to reliable sources, the friends and family members of Rangjung have not heard from him since his arrest on 11 September. The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) expresses its deepest concern over the well-being of Tibetan journalist and calls for the Chinese authorities to ascertain his whereabouts to the family members.

According to official Chinese media reports, Deputy Communist Party Secretary Nur Bakri delivered a lengthy speech on September 10 accusing Western countries of instigating terrorism, separatism and extremism in East Turkestan (also known as Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region). Citing “imperialist plans to split China”, Bakri asserts that “East Turkestan splittist elements”, led by Uyghur democracy leader Rebiya Kadeer and backed by the West, were responsible for a series of violent attacks that occurred during the Olympics period in the region.

National Democratic Party of Tibet Meeting Begins

Dharamshala, September 24 - The fifth general body meeting of the National Democratic Party of Tibet began here today at the Toepa Community hall. Presiding over the modest function was Ms. Gyari Dolma, the Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile. She categorically stated that her presence at the gathering was not official but on a personal capacity. About a hundred people gathered for the opening ceremony including representatives from various Non Governmental Organizations of the Tibetan Community.

Confession Ultimatum for Tibetan Govt Officials in Tibet Ends

The two-month ultimatum for Tibetan members of the Communist Party and government workers to confess that they had or have children in schools run by the exile government in India ended last week. In July, Communist Party authorities in the Tibet Autonomous Region issued measures stating that Tibetan children must confess if they have been to schools in India and whether they believed anything they had been taught there, according to the official Communist Party paper, Tibet Daily.
