In marcia verso il Tibet

I marciatori hanno raggiunto il villaggio di Ektar Vihar dove trascorreranno la notte. Erano partiti molto presto da Pakwara e hanno percorso anche oggi una ventina di chilometri. Durante il percorso si sono fermati nella cittadina di Moradabad per recitare una preghiera in occasione del decimo anniversario della morte di Thupten Ngodup che si immolò, dandosi fuoco, per la causa tibetana nel 1998 quando la polizia indiana pose termine con la forza allo sciopero della fame organizzato in quell'anno a Delhi dal Tibetan Youth Congress.

China's Foreign Ministry denies foreign pressure led to Beijing's decision to revive talks with a representative of the Dalai Lama.
China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu says the Chinese government's contact and consultation with the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, were completely internal affairs of China.
The United States, the European Union and other western countries have been urging Beijing to open a dialogue with the Dalai Lama, after recent Tibetan unrest.

Chinese Foreign Ministry: no information about talks between the Chinese government and representatives of the Dalai Lama

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Tuesday that she had no information about planned talks announced Friday between the Chinese government and representatives of the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader. But she continued to make it clear that China blamed him for the violence in Tibet and ensuing unrest in adjacent areas with large Tibetan populations.

110 Tibetans detained in Nepal yet again

Kathmandu, April 29 - Tibetans in Nepal have been protesting continuously from March 10 against China's atrocities in their homeland. They took to the streets yet again demonstrating at the Chinese Consulate in Kathmandu this afternoon. They have been rallying against China at different locations in the capital including the Chinese Embassy and UN House for the last 50 days since the initial unrest in Tibet broke out.

Tibet : Police kill Tibetan during gun battle

BEIJING, April 30 — Police shot dead an alleged Tibetan independence "insurgent" in northwest China, state press said Wednesday, the first official admission that authorities killed anyone during recent unrest.
A policeman was also killed in the gun battle on Monday in a Tibetan populated area of Qinghai province, Xinhua news agency reported.

Tibet's government-in-exile says more than 200 people have been killed in a huge Chinese military and police crackdown on protests against China's rule of the Himalayan region that began on March 10.

China's state media today morning announced that 17 Tibetans have been sentenced between three years to life imprisonment in connection with the Lhasa revolt in March 2008.

Chinese state media say a court in Tibet has imprisoned 17 people for terms of three years to life for their roles in deadly riots and violence in the region last month.
The official Xinhua news agency did not give any other details on the Lhasa court ruling in a brief dispatch Tuesday.
Tibet's Indian-based government-in-exile says more than 150 people died in a crackdown by Chinese forces on anti-government protesters and rioters. China blames Tibetan rioters for the deaths of at least 20 people.

Torch Nears, Posing Test of Autonomy in Hong Kong

HONG KONG — The Olympic torch relay coming here on Friday, the first on Chinese soil, is turning into a broader struggle over Hong Kong’s evolving role as an autonomous territory of China.
On Saturday, the Hong Kong government denied entry to three Danish human rights advocates who had hoped to protest at the torch relay, detaining them for six hours and then putting them against their will on a flight to London. A Tibetan monk was stopped on arrival at the airport over the weekend and forced to fly elsewhere, according to the local news media.

SKorea vows 'diplomatic measures' over Chinese torch violence

SEOUL, April 29 - Violence by Chinese students at the weekend Beijing Olympic torch relay injured South Korea's national pride and "legal and diplomatic measures are necessary," Prime Minister Han Seung-Soo said Tuesday.
"Legal and diplomatic measures are necessary as the incident hurt national pride considerably," Yonhap news agency quoted Han as telling a cabinet meeting. He did not elaborate.

Public anger is growing over Sunday's violence, recorded on widely circulated video clips, in which Chinese students attacked Koreans staging protests at Beijing's rights record.

In a rare challenge to China's massive security presence in Tibet, two Buddhist nuns have staged a public protest in Sichuan province before being taken into custody, several witnesses have told Radio Free Asia (RFA).

I marciatori sono partiti questa mattina alle 06,00 e hanno percorso oltre venti chilometri sotto il sole cocente ed hanno raggiunto nel pomeriggio il villaggio di Duduli dove trascorreranno la notte. Il morale continua ad essere molto alto anche se la stanchezza comincia a farsi sentire.

Tibetan Independence Torch Relay in New York

New York, April 27 - Hundreds of Tibetans and supporters gathered in New York for the next leg of the Tibetan Independence Torch relay today wearing 'Rangzen track suits' and carrying Tibetan National flags and banners. The torch lighting ceremony took place in Union Square with Venerable Palden Gyatso, Jamyang Norbu and 'goddesses'. The goddesses' roles were played by young Tibetan girls dressed in 'Lhamo Ringha' who sang the traditional Opera song. The goddesses then passed the torch on to the first runner Jamyang Norbu, a Tibetan Rangzen activist and a writer.

Are these Chinese Government’s Negotiations with the Dalai Lama in Earnest or are They an Attempt ‘o Deceive?

Recently, news that the Chinese government is preparing to open negotiations with the Dalai Lama has been disseminated through many channels. But different sources are producing differing reports. The tone of the formal announcement from Xinhua News Agency is something like "preparing to resume negotiations with the Dalai Lama's personal representative," but the given condition is that the Tibetan people halt all protest activities. But when Wen Jiabao met with European Commission’s President Jose Manuel Barroso he indicated that these were formal negotiations.

Nella capitale il popolo si è raccolto entusiasta attorno al suo caro leader per partecipare allo storico evento.

130 arrested in Nepal after protest near Chinese Consulate

Kathmandu, April 27 - Snubbing the announcement made by China towards dialogue with envoys of the Dalai Lama, about 140 Tibetans in Nepal again protested near the Chinese Consulate in Kathmandu this afternoon. Police stopped them at Nagpokhari near the Consulate and arrested 130 Tibetans immediately including a minor. The tussle resulted in two demonstrators receiving injuries and a Tibetan man was allegedly charged with attacking an officer and taken separately to Kamal Pokhari Police Station.The remaining demonstrators were detained at Metropolitan Police Barrack No.2 in Maharajgunj.

SEOUL, April 27 - A North Korean defector tried to set himself on fire to halt the Olympic torch relay through Seoul, while thousands of police guarded the flame Sunday from protesters blasting China's treatment of North Korean refugees.
The torch relay has become a lightning rod for anti-China demonstrations. At other stops, protesters have focused their ire on Beijing's recent crackdown on anti-government riots in Tibet. But in South Korea, China's treatment of North Korean defectors has taken center stage.

Seoul:Protests mar Olympic torch relay

Several thousand human rights activists gathered in Seoul in an attempt to block the torch relay for the Beijing Olympics yesterday.
About 5,000 people, including North Korean refugees, got together at the Olympic Park in southeastern Seoul, hours before the relay began there around 2 p.m. They were protesting China's crackdown in Tibet and the abuses of human rights of North Korean defectors.

Security high for Korea torch leg

The latest leg of the Olympic torch relay is well under way in South Korea with protesters vowing to disrupt its run through the capital Seoul.
The 24-km (15-mile) route from Olympic Park to City Hall is heavily guarded by 8,000 police officers.
Human rights groups have said thousands are preparing to protest over China's forced repatriation of North Korean refugees and its crackdown in Tibet.
Police have warned anyone trying to disrupt the relay would be severely punished.

Thousands in Bern for a Free Tibet

7,000 people have demonstrated in the Swiss capital to show their solidarity with Tibetans.
People in Switzerland have expressed their deep concerns about the approach of the Chinese troops in Tibet. The organizers are calling on the Swiss government to engage with the Chinese leadership and the Olympic Committee to finally speak out.

Jhilapur, Uttar Pradesh, 26 aprile 2008 (ore 23,30)
Oggi i marciatori hanno percorso 23 chilometri e sono arrivati al villaggio di Jhilapur. Sono stati raggiunti da altri 24 e quindi adesso il totale è di 224 marciatori. La temperatura continua ad aumentare ed ormai è costantemente sopra i 42°. Cinque persone soffrono di problemi intestinali e due hanno problemi di eruzioni cutanee. Ieri era il compleanno del Panchen Lama e quindi in segno di rispetto la "Marcia Verso il Tibet" si è fermata per un giorno.

Mi hanno riferito che a Dingri County ieri sono arrivati migliaia di soldati .
Il 23 Aprile a Karze County un gruppo di monache ha organizzato una manifestazione al mercato.Sono stati distribuiti centinaia di volantini inneggianti all’indipendenza del Tibet.Due religiose sono state arrestate dalla polizia comunista.
Il 22 Aprile nel villaggio di Mi-nyak Lha- ghang sono apparsi molti manifesti con scritte ,a grandi caratteri, frasi quali “Il Tibet è un paese indipendente” e ”I Tibetani vogliono la libertà”.
